Default Getting the tonsils out

After a second bout with tonsilitus, the first one being more serious being a peritonsillar abscess, the doctor recommended I get my tonsils removed. She says because of the fact I get strep throat very ofter (about five times a year, even on my Wedding day!) my tonsils are very worn down and once removed I probably will never have a sore throat again.
I know this is a common procedure with kids but has anybody older had this done? Suprisingly nobody I know has gotten it done after the age of ten. Does it hurt after the operation? BTW, I heard the icecream myth is totally false beacause it actually slows the process of healing.

I actually get sore throat quite often, and I think my tonsils need to go soon too, but anyway, I don't really know anyone who's done the procedure. I'm sure it's not painful because of anesthesia, but don't know about the after-effects. Good luck.

I'm not worried about the getting them out part. I heard that it takes adults longer to heal and the bleeding may go on for about a week.

I got mine out a long time ago. Don't remember any ice cream. It was definitely before the age of 10.

One of my friends told me he got his tonsils taken out and he started eating ice cream and that is the reason he is fat now.

So we should blame obesity on having our tonsils removed?

5 times a year? Jeez, I get it once a winter and dread it...must be terrible. I've been considering getting mine out too.

No ice cream? I'd have someone bring me some no matter what the doctor says. Ice cream after getting your tonsils removed is automatic. It just has to happen.

my ex-girlfriend had taken out her tonsil and from then on, she can suck half of my big wanker, it used to be that she would choke before it reaches her tonsil but now that its out, she got no problem taking on the choo choo train, ya know what I mean.

I definately fucken hope so. Doctor said the same thing. I'll probably never have a sore throat again. It'll be worth it. Never having to drop a dime on Hall with oxygen ever. Hall's is gonna loose a fortune on me. Maybe I'll take up smoking again.

See the doctor told me that's a myth. She said dairy products cause more scaring and nevr allow it to heal quickly.
