hey guys, im from Australia so its hard to be in the loop of the NBA at times.
im just wondering if anyone could shed some light on melo's role in the US team, whether he's capable of being a starter on the team, the kind of minutes hes looking at getting and how he'll likely be used.
I've read a few articles that suggest his role will be much bigger than last time he played for the US but im still curious as i have limited resources to find out this kind of info.
There's an article on ESPN.com today about Melo and team USA. Coach K loves melo and says he's "on a mission or something". ESPN suggests the starting lineup might be Paul, Wade, Bowen, Melo, and Brand with Lebron coming off the bench. I guess Melo and Paul are big standouts so far. I think it's too early to tell though to be honest, but so far Melo is looking awesome.
im not an espn insider so i cant read the whole article. but sounds very promising. i also read somewhere coach K is really impressed with melo's defence.
One thing people forget about Carmelo is that he is an outstanding shooter, especially from 15-20 ft. Lebron is a better overall player, but Melo can out-shoot him any day. The problem with the USA roster two years ago was that they had a bunch of extremely athletic players (like Lebron) but no one who could knock down perimeter shots, which is what they need in the international game. Melo can do that, especially as an undersized PF.
Bron is crying about it already, See him say that if he dosn't make it he won't try-out again. Way to be a positive role model buddy.
I do wonder that wade will be out there at the 2 if they need shooting. Bron, Melo will smack you like he did even back in high school pal.

I hope Melo makes the roster. Everybody's saying how the talent is miniscule compared to the past, but this time around we have much better team type players. I love Melo but I loved him from his Syracuse days so I know he's basically a give me the ball and I'll score it type of guy. I know Krzyzewski likes him but I just don't see him fitting in with this team in a big role.
