I completely agree, what's most likely is, with sentencing looming, Stern told Thomas that if they could reach a settlement before that, no punishments would be brought by the NBA. Sanders gets her deal, the Knicks avoid further embarrassment, Stern can put it behind the NBA.

Big corporations frequently use this strategy, the victim gets what they want and everything is hushed up and swept under the rug quickly. For example, does anyone remember when Bill O'Reilly was charged with sexual harassment and how quickly that story disappeared?

...here's a clip from the New York Daily News article, just to put everything in proper context:
"Garden officials said NBA Commissioner David Stern pushed for the settlement."

The Knicks settled the case. It's over. Why would the league want to prolong it by taking some sort of action now? I understand them not doing anything now. They want it forgotten about.

The knicks case was a civil case not criminal...the NBA never steps in on a civil case between two private parties..it may actually be considered illegal for them to impart sanctions against the knicks...

spree would have been a criminal case had pj pressed charges...
buss was suspended for his DUI, once again criminal

kobe settled the suit against him by his accuser was he suspended? nope, once again a civil case

You do realize PJ could have sued Latrell in Civil Court, right?

yeah but what's that have to do with anything?

he didn't do that or press criminal charges.
latrell admited to doing it, there was about 20 witnesses that saw it happen and the NBA took action...

Plantiff is the lady
Defendent is the Knicks/Isiah Thomas

Since when does the plantiff have any right to add in a "no further punishment for them" for the NBA? If the NBA was the plantiff then it would be different.

I just want an apology from him to all NBA fans over the 'new ball' fiasco.

its a distant memory but its really a joke how a major pro sport put in something like that the way they did, and took it out halfway through the season

I already posted why it's likely the NBA was involved a few posts back, but let's do this again....

Excerpt from the New York Daily News article:
"Garden officials said NBA Commissioner David Stern pushed for the settlement."

With sentencing looming, Stern most likely told Thomas that if a settlement could be made before that, no punishments would be brought by the NBA. Big corporations frequently use this strategy, since the victim gets what they want and everything is quickly hushed up and swept under the rug. It has nothing to do with the plaintiff having the power to offer it and everything to do with Stern not wanting more bad publicity for the NBA. (basic ****, can't believe I had to explain this....)

OK!

You made it seem like you thought there was a 'no punishment from the NBA' clause in the settlement. Thats why I questioned your intelligence.
