Default How did Durant play? (Pacers)

I noticed he scored 35 with a good percentage, and from the recap on nba dot com made some clutch free throws.

Is he finally coming together? I mean 3 of his last 4 games he has shot the ball well. Or is he just on a nice little shooting streak?

I also see 7 turnovers... so any thoughts are appreciated.

He played really nice, he just doesn't need to turnover the ball 7 times.

lets be fair he's going to turn the ball over because:

a) he has it in his hands a lot
b) he's a rookie
c) we dont have a top pg to take the strain off

i was super-impressed with that performance. e's oft-compared to nowitzki, amongst others, but dirk took 3 years to get going. this kid is doing excellently in my book

I think Seattle better get him some help next offseason. They could even start right now and trade off some of their players. I'd like them to grab Eric Gordon or Derrick Rose in the draft, then go and get a specialist type guy with Phoenix's pick. I think there's a kid named Josh Carter from Texas A&M who shoots very well. I think they need something of that nature. Then they need to get a great, tall center who can make a big impact at center. My mock offseason would be:

2nd pick: Eric Gordon, G, Indiana Fr.

29th pick: Josh Carter, G, Texas A&M (if this player even exists )

Trade Damien Wilkins for a Big or a pick

Well Wilkins has cooled off so im not sure he'd get us any big worth minutes, but a late 1st/early 2nd might not be out of the question. And we dont need a shooter we need someone who knows that there's another end on a basketball court. A corey brewer type. depending on what we do with our top pick, i'd like to see us go after Rose. If we could put a package together to get a guy like rose or hibbert too that would be great imho.

I meant more along the lines of youthful help that could get a promising young franchise going. And btw, sorry if I piss you off, coming in here with ideas of starting over and building from scratch, I don't mean to dis you or anything.

There are some photos here from the Indiana's game.

Durant really needs to get some more meat. His arms look like pogo sticks.

lets be fair, Poet, we werent exactly lighting it up before trading Lew and Jesus. Especially in the packed West, and with a fairly small market, there was always the chance 'rebuilding' was the best option.

Lew wanted out anyway (i dont blame him) and do you honestly think you could put enough pieces around an aging (and highly paid) Walter Allen to get deep in the playoffs?

I think we should, and could, have got more for Allen but there you go.

in 2005
we were one shot away from forcing a game 7 against the spurs. injuries and the lack of a quality big were the main differences since then

i think we would have a better TEAM if we kept ray and durant would have had a decent mentor from whom to learn the game/lifestyle

i have never been sold on the philosophy to totally blow up a team for "rebuilding" purposes.

the decision to gut the team of quality personnel such as lenny wilkins who have long histories in seattle is all part of bennett's strategy to distance fans and insure a losing season in order to more easily move the sonics

Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis are both great shooters, and it's unfortunate that they never had a star big man down low to divert attention from them. That's the difference. Had they gotten a K-Mart, I think they could at least be a 7 or 8 seed every year and would be a lock for the playoffs. Hey, maybe Payton would've stuck with the team and they might've gotten a good playoff run for a year or two. Now, they're stuck rebuilding with Durant and Green, and though I like Durant and rave about him at school, he's a stick, and until he gets beefed up and more physical, he's going to have me worried about the Sonics' future. Also, Green isn't a good #2 option, he's a #3, so they'll need to pick up someone good in the offseason.

That's true but that was 2005. We weren't better last year or the year before and granted injuries played their part but thats life. Building around 2 no-D gunners simply wont work short OR long term. Dont get me wrong im totally in support of your anti-bennett stance but in terms of ball we werent getting anywhere paying 13mil to Lew and 16 to Jesus so it was almost inevitable. At least now we will a) have likely a top 3 pick next year. You parlay that into Rose (or Love or blah blah blah) and you've got a top notch, defense playing pg and a scoring dynamo AND oodles of cap space with which to scoop up the necessary, and we'd STILL have the 2 phx picks.

Personally, and I said this elsewhere right after the trade- I'd liked to have seen Ray stay for one year to tutor Durant THEN get traded.
