Keith bags on the Nets

Keith Van Horn, a key member of the Nets first NBA finalist in 2002, Monday compared New Jersey's fans to those in Dallas and found the Nets' followers wanting. In particular, the 1997 Net draft pick noted how fans flocked to the airport this weekend to greet the team after they beat Phoenix. Not so in 2002 for the Nets after they beat Boston, said Van Horn. No one was at the airport, he said, disappointing the team.




I don't really blame him, our team doesn't have the most supportive fans.

the Nets do not belong to any centralized city in NJ and New Yorkers often prefer the Knicks for loyalty reasons...


especially back then when NJ was just one year out of the crapper with no superstar other than Jason Kidd.



Dallas has been winning for years now and thus they already have fans.

well i do not think that is the point.


Dallas is one of those laid back cities with strong, loyal fans.


NJ fans are disparate, if not few.


moreover, even if the Nets were to move to Brooklyn, New Yorkers are "too real" to visit a team in the airport.

FOr the Nets, being in the Finals is a birthright.

For the Mavs, it's a luxuary.

Dallas is a lot bigger than the metro New Jersey area where the Nets play.

East Rutherford, site of the Meadowlands Sports Complex where the Continental Airlines Arena is, is literally on a swamp, and it is not very easily accessible because of the nightmare highway infrastructure that loops and loops...


anyway, I bet the Nets go to Newark Airport, the one in NJ which is also out of the way rather than teh busy NYC LaGuardia Airport. so yea.. not many people would be there
