Cavaliers assign F Cedric Simmons to D-League

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Cavaliers forward Cedric Simmons, slowed this season by a sprained ankle, was assigned to Rio Grande Valley of the NBA's Developmental League on Wednesday.

Simmons, acquired in an offseason trade with New Orleans for guard David Wesley, played in just four games for the Cavs.

Simmons, who turns 22 Thursday, averaged 2.9 points and 2.5 rebounds in 43 games as a rookie for New Orleans. He was the No. 15 overall pick in the 2006 draft.

Rio Grande Valley is an affiliate for Cleveland, the Hornets and Houston Rockets.

I saw this this morning. I wish to hell that our front office would pull their heads out of their a$$es.

They tried to do this to Shannon Brown last year and ended up recalling him the same day. Literally..

I don't understand why they went out and traded for this kid, then extended his contract (when they refused to extend Shannon's, who THEY drafted) and then they don't play him in any games.

How hard is it for these stupid NBA coaches to figure out that practice situations are not the same as game situations. If you don't let these kids go out where it counts, and see what they can do, then you're wasting your time.

Dwayne Jones has played really well in spot minutes from what I can see, and he and Cedric Simmons are both young, athletic guys who can block shots, and yet we're playing Sideshow Bob again, after he held out for months, insulted the GM, and pretty much said he didn't want to play for us.
