IN-PAX-WE-TRUST is starting to rub some people the wrong wayIN-PAX-WE-TRUST is starting to rub some people the wrong way
Default Only mistake Mitch made....

signing Walton to 30 million contract is looking like a bust... Ariza is clearly the better player when he is healthy.... Walton is nothing more than a 10 min per game player in a couple weeks... he really needs to step up... other than that though, Mitch has been amazing the last couple years...

5 million a year is not a bad signing..walton is hurt and has been for quite abit this year... when he's healthy he'll be worth that kind of money...
ariza has his upside, but he's a relative newby in the system and it will take him at least a year to get up to speed... right now he was just getting by on energy and hustle but that's won't get it done in the playoffs everyone plays at that level and his lack of understanding of the system will stick out...

I think there is a team/player option available for next year.

Even if it turns out he won't be a big part of the team in the future his contract is quite movable. 4.0, 4.4, 4.8, 5.3, 5.7, 6.1. He's a solid role player and at a reasonable price. Most teams would willing take on that salary for him.

Luke and Ariza do very different things on the floor so having both of them gives the Lakers flexibility. I don't think you can really say one is better than the other at this point. Each has their own stengths and weaknesses.

Ariza wasn't on the team when we re-signed Walton........Just like Vlad Rad wasn't on the team when we re-signed Cook......or Gasol when we re-signed Mihm. You do the best you can at that moment....then upgrade 1st chance you get. Mitch is having an Amazing year, he had been just HORRIBLE before this season.

You have to give more credit than just this season, he's been pretty solid since trading Butler for Kwame....and in the long run that helped us get Gasol, so its all worked itself out.

He's done well in the draft the past couple of years, drafting Bynum, Farmar, Turiaf (2nd round), J-Critt, and Marc Gasol (2nd round).

The Shaq trade doesn't look so bad now that it helped us nab Gasol and the pick we got in that trade ended up being Famar.

Of course some of the best things he's done is not make a trade just to shake things up, IE JO for Odom/Bynum or Bynum in a J-Kidd deal. He waited for a deal to make us better.

Its been a couple years in the making!

I agree that Mitch made some mistakes in 2006-07, but the fact that he didn't trade Bynum for Kidd ( asKobe was putting pressure on him) shows that this guy understands how to build a team... youth/big men are always more important... gotta give him huge props for that... Bynum for Kidd would have set this franchise back at least 5 years... thank you mitch!
