Originally their deal was just to '09, but they announced today that they extended it. Got this from IGN.com, by Nate Ahearn, pretty good interview after the intro.
February 12, 2008 - In 2004 EA Sports shocked the world of videogames by announcing a deal with the National Football League that gave them the exclusive rights to publish games under the NFL brand. Gamers everywhere cried foul over the agreement that essentially took one of our most beloved football franchises, NFL 2K, out of the yearly grudge match. The original deal was signed through 2009 but today EA Sports announced that it's completed negotiations with the NFL and NFLPA (NFL Players' Association) to extend the exclusive license through the 2012 season.
How do you guys feel about this? I got pretty into Madden 06, but stopped playing after that, and never played 2K. Any of you guys have strong feelings about their monopolization?
Pathetic. I used to love the EA line years ago...until the "arcade effect" got worse...
Without competition, they will continue to put out sub-par games. I'll take the realism of 2k games anyday, although EA's NHL 08 is better than previous EA hockey games they've put out in years past...
Well at least we have hope for NFL 2K13 right? Damnit, why won't EA learn that competition brings out the best in everybody. You guys really think EA is trying hard to make the game better when they know they're the only NFL game out there and we have no choice.
well i dont know how much of a 'hater' i can be labeled as i always get and own the Madden series anyways, but for the record i feel the 2K series was always the better of the two. even to this day i buy both the EA Sports and NBA 2K series games but i tend to play the NBA 2K series more, i like both, just i like the 2K's better. i also own the 2K games such as NHL, NCAA, and MLB but only buy the Madden, NCAA College Football and Live for EA Sports games. honestly i am still heated that EA got the sole rights to the NCAA Basketball games now as well! NCAA 2K was always better then NCAA College Hoops!

C'mon people lets be real here. Madden has given the "freestyle player" the advantage with setting up "nano blitzes" and stuff of that nature. But to every action there is a reaction.... REAL BALLERS adjust their game accordingly, CRY BABIES just take their ball and go home instead of learning how to play wit the big boys. LOL! Madden since '94 on sega has been the best football game out there and still is today. Every game has bugs, but learn how to play these games for fun bros, WE AIN'T GONNA GET PAID FOR PLAYIN' MADDEN!!!
