Post Remember this: "ROCK L.A.FAMILIA"

I was reading my old copy of SLAM from way back 2001 and there was this interesting story, which I liked even when I first read in 2001. ROCK L.A.FAMILIA, of the three upcoming NBA players from the Clippers. There was all so much hype on the pages and I came to wonder what if...the trade's were never made.

I know the Clippers are now in great shape but what if the core of the roster from 2001-2002 season would still be there.

34 Michael Olowokandi C 213 122 27 1975 4 1-98
42 Elton Brand PF 203 120 23 1979 3 1-99
50 Corey Maggette SF 198 103 23 1979 3 13-99
52 Eric Piatkowski SG 198 97 32 1970 8 15-94
5 Jeff McInnis PG 193 81 28 1974 5 37-96
45 Sean Rooks C 208 118 33 1969 10 30-92
7 Lamar Odom PF 208 100 23 1979 3 4-99
21 Darius Miles SF 206 95 21 1981 2 3-00
3 Quentin Richardson SG 198 101 22 1980 2 18-00
11 Earl Boykins PG 165 60 26 1976 4 -
54 Obinna Ekezie F - C 206 122 27 1975 3 37-99
40 Harold Jamison PF 206 122 26 1976 2 -
32 Tremaine Fowlkes SF 203 100 26 1976 1 54-98
1 Kenyon Dooling PG 191 89 22 1980 2 10-00
24 Doug Overton PG 191 86 33 1969 10 40-91

There's also Q, Maggette, Dooling, Jeff and so on (and remember Piatkowski wasn't all that bad way back then). Q has the game still on lock (but not in NY), Maggette is still with the Clippers and so great. And of course, Odom has become so very good can-do-all type of player, Brand, a dominating pf and Miles still atletic wing with the talent.

So how far would've the Clippers gone, considering what these players have become. And with couple of key trades, I think they would've rocket some playoffs with those players. (And the next season they got Andre Miller and Cris Wilcox).

So what do you think? Could it been great or disaster and could that team now days be better tha today's team?

No, they would not have been better than the Team we have today. This is the best Clipper Team ever. I still wish we would not have traded Miles for that useless Andre Miller. Miles would have developed into a better player if he stayed in L.A.

I never knew why we cut Earl Boykins that just made no sense. Keyon Dooling had a ton of injury problems when he was with us but he was the quickest guy I had ever seen in a Clipper jersey. He also put on tons of highlights for us with his dunks, and to this day I remember his facial over Mt. Mutumbo. Doolings probaly the most 4th most athletic PG in the NBA behind Steve Francis, Baron Davis, and Nate Robinson.

You are right, we should have never let Boykins get away.

So was it, in Your mind OK to let go Miles and Odom? Cause I get the feeling that Boykins was the only guy you would have keeped?

I wouldve kept both Miles and Odom if I could. The only person I wouldve let go is Jeff McInnis. Remember the Clipps tried to trade Maggette for Andre Miller at first and when that fell through, we offered Odom and the Cavs were considering it until they decided he wasnt healthy enough. We then agreed to send Miles which looked like a smart deal at the time because we got a true PG in Andre Miller who is heaps better than Jeff McInnis. Also remember Kandi Man put up 20 and 10 in his last 15 games or so the previous season and at the time our team looked really impressive on paper.

C Kandi Man/ Melvin Ely
PF Elton Brand/ Chris Wilcox/
SF Lamar Odom/ Corey Maggette/
SG Quentin Richardson/ Eric Piatkowski
PG Andre Miller/ Keyon Dooling

That team on paper sure looked nice. I remember in the 2nd month of the season I think, we were at .500 for the first time for years, and then we lost to the San Antonio Spurs and our team just went downhill after that. Everyone started playing for a contract and our team just self imploded.

Another reason for the losing was our coaching. Alvin Gentry did not know how to discipline our team and was a terrible coach. If Mike Dunleavy had inherited that team I bet we would have made the playoffs.

If Odom was as good as he is today, and Miles was boarding and scoring, and Brand had his touch back then, they would have won a championship.

Default Odumb and 420 Miles

Odumb is overrated and actually had his best year the year before LA familia and the year before in Miami. His Faker years have been inconsistent and he lacks the cajones to stand up to Ms Bryant and claim his part of the team.

As for 420, D has checked out mentally and returned his brain to the mean streets of E St Louis...a place that makes Compton look like Beverly Hills.

That Clip team had serious chemistry issues starting with its pussssy coach Alvin Gentry and multiplied by the most overrated and worst #1 pick ever in Michael Olowokandiasssman.
