Could the Lakers survive the rest of the regular season?

Some of the ESPN analysts (including Steve Mason) don't believe the Lakers would remain in the playoff picture without Kobe, since the 8th seed is projected to win 50+ games.

Could they pull it off?

With the West being this strong I doubt it... a team thats on pace for about 48 wins is a 9th seed right now, just scary. Add in the fact that its not only Kobe thats out but also Bynum...some pretty big parts missing there.

No we wont. We may be able to hang on to a lowly 8th seed, but its not a given. Its too much to risk, at least in Kobes opinion, I think hes not into the whole "wait till next year" bit cuz nothing is given with injuries or trade demands these days.

Again, no one looks at the remaining 31 games. Only a handful of teams on it to worry about and its home heavy for the Lakers. They could play the bench and win 75% of these games. They would be fine.

Home court advantage will be critical this season. Lakers would kiss that goodbye.

yeah i agree real tight this year, no margin for error.. actually anyone of the top teams is one key injury away from missing the playoffs

If we make it to the playoffs and Kobe reinjures the finger, then what? If we dont have a shot with the remaining 30 games, what makes us think we'll win in the playoffs?

Get the surgery now, and we'll give it what we have...hopefully, it's enough and if not...it's completely understandable.

I honestly think If bynum returns 100% like he was before he got injured, I think we would win games with Pau and Bynum taking over.

We wouldn't get passed the first or second round depending on who we play. With Kobe though you have a leader by example. He's a player that we look up to going into tough moments. He really is the carrier of this team.

This is the NBA, any team can lose to any team depending of the performance/morale/etc. Once you slip away 1 or 2 games, the losing streak can really continue and hurt your record.

I don't think they can make the playoffs if Kobe is out, but it's pretty close. I'd say 8th or 7th seed at best.

God damn I hate injuries...when Bynum got hurt I was soo pissed off. Now I have to watch Kobe with his broken finger. It hurts damnit.

I'd rather him do the surgery now and be ready for the playoffs, even though by having surgery they risk not making the playoffs.

I worry that he will eventually reinjure it to the point were he will have to have surgury and then he will miss the playoffs.

Agree, if he reinjures it and miss the playoffs..I don't want to think about it, it's too horrible to think about.
