Pau's defense is under rated. He's a smart player who is pretty quick on his feet for a big guy. He's a legit 7 foot with long arms. That is going to throw off some shots. I think once he's down low with Bynum people will see this more. Right now he's the only big guy down there and with teams that have a good front line tandem the Lakers are going to be a bit exposed until Bynum recovers.
Pau's defense is not at all underrated. I actually think it's a bit overrated. He has trouble rotating over to other players in time in which they get easy layups, or open jumpshots.
With Bynum that is to improve yes but Pau's only defensive ability is his rebounding and shot blocking. Without those he's absolutely a liability (if that not already be the case).
