Default Coach Stockton...

Don't get me wrong, Sloan's great and he can coach until he's ready to leave. But I can't help but wonder who'll be our next coach? I just don't see Larry going out and finding another "free agent" coach around the league... it seems like he'd promote from within. I know Phil Johnson has always been said to be Sloan's successor, but he's Sloan's age! If Sloan takes his time to retire, Phil's gonna be too old. Soooo.... i was thinkin Coach Stockton had a nice ring to it. Think we can get him?

Would Stockton make a good coach?

I'm guessing Ty Corbin will be next in line by the time coach Sloan retires. Nothing against Phil Johnson but like Brick said, he'll be too old surely. I don't think thery would get Stockton unless he was hired as an assisstant before then. Either that or they have some sort of plan in place where he gets experience somewhere else.

Not all great PG's turn out to be great coaches (remember Magic).

I like what the Jazz do now calling on their ex-stars from time to time for opinions and a little help here or there. Keeping them involved with the organisation but also letting them live their own lives away from it....

I don't even think Stock would want to do it.

That's what I was thinking... He just doesn't seem like he has the temperment to be a coach to todays NBA players.

Stockton never gave any inclination that he wanted to pursue coaching, though they would not be able to find a smarter man for the job. However Coach Hornacek seems like a fairly likely scenario. There was speculation about Horny joining Phoenix's staff a few years back from what I remember.

Ha... that's true. Although you could probably say the same about Sloan. I think he would implode if he had to coach any other team in the NBA. The Jazz are unique in that they try to go for the obedient players who think team first. If Stockton were to somehow take over a Jazz team like that, I think he could continue that mindset. Players would definitely respect Stock for sure.

I would love to see him going nuts on the sideline but as Brick said, the Jazz go for players they think will fit the team first system.
