Here I'll do the board the favor.
"The problem with keeping up with the Joneses is that no matter how hard you try, you never quite reach their status.
This is the case with all the recent trades in the NBA. Many of the contenders for the title are trying to match the theft the Los Angeles Lakers pulled off to get Pau Gasol from Memphis for basically nothing.
That one move turned the Lakers from a middle-of-the-road playoff team to the eventual NBA champions.
In response to the Lakers trade that may eventually cause Congress to have hearings on unfair trades in the NBA, Phoenix made a move to bring in Shaquille O’Neal, Dallas used a retired player as bait to get Jason Kidd and the Cleveland Cavaliers traded half their team to get new players.
The only trade that’s really going to work is Gasol. It’s almost unfair that the Lakers didn’t have to give up one decent player to get a power forward entering his prime years.
The combination of Gasol with Kobe Bryant will become the best duo in the NBA, much better than what we saw two years ago with O’Neal and Dwyane Wade in Miami.
I might be going overboard here, but Bryant-Gasol might one day be better than Bryant-O’Neal, or even Michael Jordan-Scottie Pippen.
Bryant-Gasol, if they both stay healthy, could have a three-peat in them.
Other top teams realize this, and that’s why they have made moves out of desperation.
Kidd is on the back side of his career, as the young Chris Paul proved in Kidd’s debut with Dallas against New Orleans. Kidd is not the piece that will take the Mavericks to the top.
O’Neal was OK in his debut, but it was a loss to the Lakers. And that’s probably the best O’Neal will look in a Suns uniform. As stated before, the Diesel is breaking down.
Cleveland’s moves will still keep the team behind Boston and Detroit.
So it is only logical to say the Lakers rule."
