Default Can we Win 60? Does it Matter? Do we Want to?

Just have to go 20-5 the rest of the way. Just not sure if that would even be necessary to keep the top seed in the west considering how easy our schedule is the rest of the way compared to the other top teams. Additionally, busting our butts that hard right into the playoffs might not be the best thing for us if we already have the top spot locked up. What do you guys think?

Phil wants it. Said he wants 55-60 wins. I'm really hoping for it, the west is just so tough this year, first seed would be a major bonus with HC advantage throughout the playoffs. 20 wins to go...

60 wins wont matter if we don't get first place.

If it means we have to win the rest of all our games and get to 65, so be it.

first place will come if we just try to win every single game left.

I don't think the final number is that important, just having a top 4 seed does. #1 is preferable of course.

We just need to keep winning like we are doing and not over extend guys for the stretch run. We are going to need everyone fresh and ready to go for the playoffs.

it would be nice, but not at the expense of breaking down or wearing out.... home court is nice but don't forget one loss in the first two games and all that work is gone...pffffft just like that and now you wore yourself out getting it and have no gas in the tank to get it back

I'm with Hot & Phil. I want 60 wins and first place and I think the Laker have an EXCELLENT chance at achieving both those things.

We're one of the best road teams. I dont care about HC advantage. I just care about Kobe getting MVP

I think a favorable seeding is more important than the number of games... particularly in this competitive conference. As someone said, being in the top 4 seeds is probably the most important as it gets you an advantage in the first round. The Lakers need to "gel" as a team leading up to that point, so perhaps the wins go hand-in-hand with that.

it doesn't really matter what the final win column reads, it would be nice but i'd rather just want to win the last games and head to the 1st round with great momentum. it scares me when all slates are wiped clean and underdogs are thirsty. the wins would mean nothing if all fails.

I agree with those that say the number itself is not important...the seeding is...we just need to take each game at a time, fine tune mistakes and continue building momentum...I'm not worried about getting burned out because we have THE deepest bench in the league

So let me re-state the question then. How important is the #1 seed? We all pretty much agree we must have a top 4 spot, but what about a #1?

Hypothetical Scenario:
Let's say coming down the stretch, the Lakers, Suns, Hornets, and Spurs are all within one or two games of each other with 10 to play. We are guaranteed a top 4 spot however (even if we lost all 10--just for the sake of this thought experiment) no matter what happens. Do we grind as hard as we can to win every one of those games to get the #1 position or do we just try and get to the playoffs healthy.

The ultimate question I believe comes down to: is the #1 spot (HC advantage throughout) important enough that we really kill ourselves to get it done--to the very last games of the regular season?

answering your rephrased questions, its not worth it to kill youself for the #1 seed. It's more important to be healthy and not worn out.

I agree with this post. I think thats the best summary.

And speaking of health, the Lakers are not exactly a healthy team and still performing at a high level.

Here is a quick list of who is out:

- Bynum
- Mihm
- Ariza
- VladRad

Three of those four players are key contributors, so I just wanted to point this out as it is remarkable that the Lakers continue to perform at this level despite the key injuries.

Maybe not for the #1 seed, but I think its important to keep winning going into the playoffs. Momentum does a lot for a teams mentality.
