Ira is a guy that can carry himself well on the court as well.

I always saw him playing significant minutes for the cavaliers.

I think they should pick him up.. if anything to muscle up with the opposition, in an attempt to disrupt their physical play.

The Lakers are a finesse team that is not soft but dont seek to go pound for pound. So to pick up something someone who can hit a few bodys and introduce a little intencity, that could be a good asset to the teams chemistry.

Yes you need to score well in the playoffs, but the soft defense that they have been displaying, will not cut it. A little rize in the intencity level... will be just what the doctor ordered.

The problem is our guards can't play defense right now.

We pick up some steals here and there and we can play the full court press pretty good but our guys cannot rotate defensively and some can't even stay in front of their man.

I dont know Ira's height but Im hoping hes a guy that can rough up some pg's and force them to make some bad decisions which is what we need.

Gerald green is nice but we need some defense more than projects right now, projects can come any other time.

all the things you listed are not from a lack of talent, it's a combination of defensive phil-osophy and effort... look at this team when they want to shut somebody down they do it, most the time they cruise thru a game and shut down teams here and there in stretches and it works because they rachet up the effort, it's not because phil brings in a new group of players.... for 8 years now i have been watching lakers teams on cruise control and thats what they are on right now

the guys can and do rotate just fine, and when they want to shut somebody down most times they do, it's phils schemes that make this style of ball dangerous some nights because some nights it's hard to crank it up suddenly and some nights the other team responds with added effort... they do that damn switching thing to create mis matches and it doesn't always work... they don't play any real zone , they'll make an attempt now and again to throw the other team off but they abandon it quickly.. and the switch is horrible at the pick and roll, always has been always will be...

this defensive problem is not new guys, these are the exact same problems we had with shaq, the same problems we had while winning rings...
you can sign every defensive specialist in the world but it's not going to get better under phils system....

what is phils system good for, if it's so bad why run it?
because by switching you save energy, instead of having your gaurds running around back and forth chasing chris paul around, you can get 75% of the coverage while expending 40% of the energy... don't forget phil is a playoffs coach, he plays to get to the playoffs in as good a shape as possible.. and if his team can save on energy spent on the defensive end over 82 games he'll do it...

From what I heard about Ira is he's a physical defender and I am guessing the lakers are missing ariza's defense, in which case they would bring Ira in for a little bit.

This move doesn't make sense to me only because at this point he isn't eligible to play in the playoffs.

I dont know if we should sign him or not (if we do it probably will mean that ariza is done for the season)
but
it just shows that our coaching stuff & FO just see the obvious thing - OUR defense is terrible.
But i dont know if adding a player, even if he's defensive minded, will help. It rather a team-effort issue.
if we keep play that weak on D we will be out in 2nd round of PO, if we are lucky that is.

Ira Newble completely sucks. And aside from that, I have HATED him ever since he caused the Kobe injury a few years ago.

Actually the first Kobe injury was a result of Kendrick Perkins, the second one was Andersen Verejao.

Where is his stat card?

Are we pulling him from the D-League? Couldn't find him on nba.com

He seems like he can do some defensive damage, though, we shouldn't be expecting him to provide any offensive support.

And, he must have had to defend Lebron everyday in practice for a while. So,
he can probably handle just about any sf in the league compared to lebron. I say we add him.
