Bowen plays gritty defense. He doesn't defer to superstars nor is he intimidated by anyone. Bowen is a throwback player that have a problem getting dirty. Do I at times get frustrated watching him D up players I like? Sure, but I'd take him on my squad any day.
I had respected Bowen as a great defender - Kobe himself previously said he respects Bruce because of how good he is on D. It's always good to watch a bit of lockdown man to man defense.
But the turning point for me was when last playoffs, he went at Amare's ankles and made him almost fall over after dunks, on two separate occasions. The guy has 2 surgically repaired knees for crying out loud. A bad fall could majorly f*ck them up and end his career. Just not cool.
How would people feel if someone punched TJ Ford in the spine? It goes beyond basketball, it's potentially causing a serious life-changing injury.
I have a lot of respect for the Spurs as a team, and yes, Bowen is a great tough defender who can get into his opponents' heads. I fully understand that Spurs' fans want to stand behind one of their players, especially when he helps their team so much by providing lockdown D night in and night out. But some of the stuff he's done just annoys the sh*t out of me.
and we all cant forget about the time he injured Vince Carter. Bowen is dirty face it from grabing jerzeys to undercuttin carter 2 kneeing nash in the balls all the way down to drop kickin wally in the face. BAN BOWEN!!
He is a Dirty Player....but you still gotta love that drop kick .
Look Spurs fans. Just because you like him doesn't mean you can't admit he's dirty. Those are not mutually exclusive.
And for those who loves Bowen for his "old school" defense... you've obviously got bad memory. Because Bowen doesn't play "old school" defense. He plays "If you don't change your shooting motion I can end your career" defense.
I've seen plenty of physical defense. The Knicks played that way. The Rockets under JVG played that way. The Miami Heat during the Mourning era played that way.
it really hurt them today, the crowd got riled up, Bowen turned the ball over on the next play, and it went from a small lead to a big lead in the next few minutes.
if thats not a suspension, what is? you cant do unusual movements, right? wasn't that the justification for the kobe suspensions, or the retarded Balkman suspenion earlier this year. He brought up his leg to kick a player on the ground
he's gotten away w/ alot of cheapshots because nobody has retaliated to the point that he stops. he is a great defensive player but he uses dirty tactics along the way. not my style of ball and i don't like him for it.
