Re: Ira Newble on his way to LakerLand? IT IS OFFICIAL - 10 DAY CONTRACT

Re: Ira Newble on his way to LakerLand? IT IS OFFICIAL - 10 DAY CONTRACT
Ira "Whomever" was picked up for only two reasons. One, Trevor Ariza is injured and will not be returning for the playoffs. Two, the Lakers are absolutely intent on winning a championship this year, and if they get Bynum, Gasol, and Mihm back with no more injuries, they WILL WIN THAT CHAMPIONSHIP! If those things occur, "the refrigerator door is closed, the light is off, and the butter is getting hard". Bet on it!

I also left out "the eggs are cooling". I left LA 18 years ago, live in Bellingham, WA, and wear Laker sweatshirts everywhere to remind everybody that there are real basketball teams out there, as opposed to the the Not-So-Supersonics. Trust me, I am a Laker fan!

Solid pick up.
Unfortunately, I think this signals that Ariza will not be back this year.
Ira reminds me a little of Rick Fox on the defensive end.
Solidly built and gets physical defensively.
Remember how Fox used to get into Peja's head?
Nowhere close to Foxy on offense though.
Considering our weakness at the 3 on the defensive end with Walton and Vlad, Ira is a nice pick up.

On the point of Arizas status....
I dont know if it was merely wishful thinking, but Ariza said he would be back a few games before the end of the season. He was interviewed in the middle of the sonics game. Im thinking that may possibly be, the best case senario, and that the likely senario would be him not returning in time to be included in the playoffs...
Yet when he stated that he would return before the playoffs he seemed as if it was an expected event.
Jackson and General Manager Mitch Kupchak will discuss after tonight's game whether to sign Ira Newble to another 10-day contract. Newble has appeared in one game and played for four minutes since he was signed March 21. …
Defense-minded forward Ira Newble was signed for the rest of the season for about $110,000. Newble, 33, who has two points in four minutes of game action with the Lakers, is eligible for the playoffs. The Lakers picked Newble up after Seattle waived him in February. . . .
