*Note: in general I find Defensive contribution to be vastly underweighted in comparison to offensive, because it's harder to show on the box score. You get some one dimensional chucker shooting 40% and taking 30 shots to get 25ppg and people drool all over them.
I don't think the concepts of "overrated" and "underrated" really exist. Usually, it's the same guys that make these kind of lists, so noone is thinking too high/low of them in the first place.
For example, people might say that Jermaine O'Neal is overrated (just a random name to throw out there--don't look too much into it). Is anyone thinking that highly of him to begin with anymore? Where is that "praise?" that overrated players supposedly get too much of?
Same with underrated. Is Mike Miller really THAT underrated if everyone says he is? Seems like he's being highly thought of by a lot of people, so he's not really flying under the radar.
Only is a player truly "overrated" or "underrated" if his name rarely appears on either of these lists.
lebron, by this board (guy is good but not that good, a top 10 player)
iverson. no point in arguing this, facts speak for themselves
Duncan. He's so great yet he's never the guy in the clutch doing anything.
Amare. Gets owned by Rasheed( not that Rasheed is bad) but claims to be a top 5 player.
Bosh- has a good team yet is barely over 500 IN THE EAST
underrated on this board:
basically anyone on the lakers or cavs because theu fans like to put them down in order to prop up their hero
I watch all the Blazer games because I'm obviously a fan. Both Travis and LA are underrated. That doesn't mean they're all stars, simply that they perform above most people's expectations.
And Pau gets a lot of stuff created for him. He isn't nearly as much of a defensive force as a guy his size who can move like him should be.
