Gary Payton vs. Jason Kidd
Who was the better player in their primes?
I'd say Payton...
He is a better scorer and a better defender
2 of the most (if not the most) important categories in basketball...
And Jason Kidd is known for having very low FG%s...Low 40s to High 30s...

Who IS the better player?
Kidd, and you're a fool for even asking.
Better player in his prime? Really depends on the team around them. You got a second star, I'd go with Payton. You got some good, but not spectacular players? Give them Kidd and watch them get better.

of course you'd think GP is better, but JKIDD is better...
Way better passer, on par defender, so they are both pretty much on par with each other but JKIDD is a little better

I'll give Kidd passing and rebounding...
But Payton could do those 2 very well too...
He has had many years of 8+apg and 7+apg...
And he was an above average rebounder for a PG...
At the same time...
Payton was a better defender...
And a MUCH better scorer...
I know Kidd is good...
But Payton was just a little better...
Kidd had a huge weakness...His low FG%s...
That should give Payton the edge...

Why?
Kidd was a better passer and rebounder
But Payton could do both those very well...He was above average on both those categories...
At the same time, Payton was a better rebounder...
And a was a MUCH better scorer...
Kidd also had horrible FG%...And that always HURT his team...

IN prime I would pick GP, better defender, better scorer/shooter, almost as good passer, but if its right now its obviously Kidd.

Kidd's court vision is A LOT better than Payton's. just because Payton got a certain amount of assists doesnt mean you can compare him that way.

And what else does "court vision" help you get besides some assists?
Points?
Rebounds?
We have already covered all that...
I know Kidd was good, very good...
But he wasn't on Payton's level...
Payton was a far better scorer and was a better defender...

And Gary Payton had no weaknesses to his game...
He is the only PG in NBA History to not have any weakness to his game
