His Confidence and the fact that he is not hesitant in FIBA game......his all out style interms of gong for rebounds etc ...see an Amnerican style guy will hesitate whent he ball hits the rim...he doesn't
He probably feels hesitant in teh NBA becuz he wants to swipe the ball off the rim when he can't...
Plus he's pretty fast agile and decently skilled guy and 6'10
He also doesn't have to worry about upsetting lebron while playing. He's always played that way in the international comps i've seen him in, I was wondering why his game didn't translate well into the NBA.
sounds to me like someone didn't watch the Cavs in the playoffs, because thats when Varejao became one of my favorite back up players in the NBA.
he rebounded like crazy, hustled and played D, and was unstoppable in the mid-post pick and roll with Lebron.
The only reason he didnt have much media play is becaues he was injured for most of the season.
check out his rating (77) in NBA 2k6... they know whats up with V Man
P.S. more people would look at your thread if you had a more definitive and descriptive title... i would have checked it out a while ago had it now been so vague and incomplete
Plus unlike the U.S. some guys love their national teams and give their all every time they suit up.
When you play in the NBA it's a business......
When you play for your country it's about PRIDE and PASSION!
same reason Hoffa is a decent international player?
hoffa played ncaa. besides, his career in the brazilian national team has been far from relevant.
varejao is playing like this because of his huge heart and the fact that he's one of the focal points of the team - like somebody said in this thread, he doesn't have to worry about upsetting lebron, or ilgauskas, or gooden or whoever. other point is that he has fiba 3 point range, which makes him even more dangerous. he can shoot a three in your face or penetrate and dunk in your face (like jermaine o'neal realized in the last panamerican games) .
yesterday brazil was beaten by germany by only one point. varejao had 25 points and 10 rebounds. dirk had 18 and 16..
