Default Will Melo stay Team USA's number one option?

Through the four exhbition games so far, Melo has been The Man for Team USA. He's led them in scoring every game including the one he only played half of against Brazil, which was coincidentally the closest game in the tournament. He looks to be in great shape and is rising to the top of the team.

It seems right now like Melo will be Team USA's number one option in the tournament, above even LeBron and Wade. Reminds me of when Barkley led The Dream Team in scoring, surprising everybody.

When all is said and done, do you think Melo will remain the team's USA scorer?

Throughout this tournament I expect him to end up leading them in scoring. He's been extremely effecient. He probably doesn't even lead them in shots attempted

That's pretty remarkable, considering three guys, if not four, that are on the team are definately considered better than him in the NBA.

No Lebron led them in scoring against China and he and D wade will be the top options when the games count.

Melo is their best scorer and leader until Kobe gets there. It's ashame their going to kick off their second most talented scorer, but what are ya gonna do? They aren't always going to make the correct decisions.

Correction, lol.

Melo actually led all team members in scoring against Brazil ... and he only played one half. The only game he didn't lead in was against China. Where they sat him because they were up by so much. LeBron definetely led them in turnovers against Lithuania though, and he wasn't even in the starting lineup.

Melo is currently, hands down, their best "International style" basketball player.

Melo couldn't even get minutes for LB, it shows how bad an international coach he was.

im interested to see where kobe slots in to the equation come olympics.

Right now, i dont see any reason why lebron and wade would be considered as the top option when the games count. Melo's proven hes great in the clutch, and his game translates better to the International game. Having said that, this is lebron and wade we are talking about and it would be very difficult for coach K to hold out on them down the stretch.

You guys are making much ado about nothing. Carmelo is a nice player and he has scored well so far but saying his is the best game for international play is overreaching. A guy who has more career turnovers than assists does not necessarily an international style player make.

Blah blah blah. Melo's been the most consistent player by far. He's got one of the most consistent jumpshots, if not the most on the team. He can penetrate aswell as anybody on the team. He's been playing great defense. And really when you do look at his game he is the best international player on the team. JJs and Hinrich's are the only other 2 IMO that have the all around skill that translates aswell. Wade and Lebron turn the ball over too much and don't have consistent jumpers, plus their travelling will get called.

It will be interesting to see how Kobe fits in with these guys. Its certainly not like their offense is perfect though. His outside shooting will be a great help for the team. And as a starter would be better than Wade or Bron

One funny thing going back to the 04 Olympics, is that after Iverson, Melo was the best player in the prelims there too, was their 2nd leading scorer after AI. He nor Bron or Wade even got a chance to play when the games actually counted. Hmmm... No wonder their offense was terrible.

They should give the ball to Dwight Howard more. And this '03 draft class is owning up this team.

Okay Y2 if you guys are THAT impressed. I think he has done well but I'm just not ready to give him all the kudos you are. These are exhibition games you know.
