Default Kids Coaching Plan

I'm going be working with a few kids this summer to get them started. Ages are 6-10 and I need to get a good intro program going. What have you guys done for coaching this age group. What's worked and what hasn't.

Thanks,
HD

Well, some good things are like horse...

some skirmish games, nothing like some competition!

Have some tourneys too, Free throw, 1v1, 2v2, etc...there could be some prizes.

Dribbling drills.

Good warmups can be the dreaded lines....some under the leg/around the neck/around the waist, not dribbling, just circling with hands, its helps alot.

Whatever you do, dont let them pick their teams, a few people who are from the same school or whatever is ok....but we dont want the overpowered friends squad on one group, try to get it split in skills if you can.

Look for some people who can be good leaders, a passer or a person who encourages one another...

Try to get the badness out of ball hogs, alot of kids do it, it is NOT liked by anybody, try just to get them to pass abit more.

Passing drills too.

My 2 Cents

try some hot shot too.

where you put the tape on the floor and you get different amount of pts for every place you shoot at.

age 6 to 10 should really be focusing on good passes. just put them into a 5 point star pattern and have them pass to the person 2 spots to the left or right continually. chest passes, then bounce.

if your planning on actually running an offense, keep it stupid simple (yes, i said stupid simple). nothing more then a motion offense with lots of ball screens should be decent alone, and if they pick that up well move to some other ones.
