Default Why are there no blockers on team USA?

I thought we were going to actually get some roleplayers this time? But why are there no blockers? We already have stealers like Dwyane Wade and Lebron James, but our big men don't block a lot of shots. I think our opponents will have a field day in our paint since we didn't invite guys like Ben Wallace and Theo Ratliff.

Ben Wallace's horrific offensive skill set would be an embarassment to team USA on the international stage. I can just see teams sagging off of him, leaving him wide open to put dents in the backboard from 15'

 it seems to be effecting them greatly, were in trouble

Bosh is small compared to there guys, but Brand and Howard are all it needs it looks like. Howard is just a monster compared to these guys

were fine...leave it alone....

Opposing teams will not try to beat USA from down low, so no blocker is needed.

Ben Wallace is the 2nd worst player who ever put on a USA basketball jersey. The first is Marbury. You put either one of these in a USA basketball team, BAM, no gold medal.

Elton Brand is my father, seriously, the man is a beast, and even with his short height, his arms provide all the blocking you could want.

on the other hand he's more of a face-up blocker, not a help/weak-side blocker like Ratliff for example, so he doesn't really accomplish much blocking unless it's on the man he's guarding

Shotblocking isn't as important in the international game, at least not the way it is in the NBA.

Dwight Howard and Elton brand is plenty of shotblocking. Especially when you consider how much more athletic these two guys are compared to most forwards and centers in the international game. Why invite Ben and Ratliff, neither of whom are much of a threat to score, when Brand/Howard can block shots and be useful on offense?

i agree that we could use more shot-blockers. one of the keys to the effective press the usa used in 1992 and 1996 was that they had pat and david or hakeem and shaq in the backline to wipe out anything that made it past the overaggressive pursuit of jordan, pippen, and drexler. brand is a good shot-blocker by the numbers, but needs time to gather himself, and dwight's a little slow covering distance. i'm sure they'll be fine with those two but they are a significant step down from those first two teams.

Elton Brand is a very good shot blocker... he was top 3 in the league last season.

He is better man to man but he does get quite a few blocks weakside as well... I've always thought his monster blocks were the most exciting part about his game.

The good thing about Brand especially is that his blocks are all about timing, positioning and utilizing his ridiculous length... so he doesn't need gather himself to jump and thus be suseptible to pumpfakes.
