Default The Jazz should trade their picks

I'll be disappointed if the Jazz don't attempt to trade their draft picks. Right now we have many players not getting enough playing time as it is. Even if they turned into a decent player (like Ronnie Brewer or the like) the Jazz wouldn't need them.

The Utah Jazz will have 13 players under contract for next season by only giving Millsap an extension. If they give CJ Miles another chance (which I'm sure they'd like to do) that makes 14. As the Jazz like to keep an open slot in case of trade that leaves zero (0) slots for rookies.

So here are the reasons why the Jazz should trade their picks:
1) If there aren't any trades, more than likely the slots are full. CJ Miles is better than a rookie, btw.
2) What playing time would they get? Well, none. They'd be another spot log-jammed with mediocre talent waiting to develop. The Jazz certainly don't need more of this right now.
3) They need to get older, not younger. These guys are building for the playoffs now. We've already got young guys to develop.
4) A FA signing is something the Jazz need. A defensive big man/backup pg can't fit.
5) Even rookies cost money, which is doubled with the Jazz likely going over the cap.

and doesnt a team only get 12 for the bench? And only rookies and sophmores can only go to the d-league. so our rookies now will probably be stuck in the d-league again next year. Bummer for almond and Fess.
I wouldn't wish it on new rookies.

I thought the same last year so don't count on it. At the least they should have drafted Splitter not Almond. Drafting overseas players like the Spurs is a great option too if you can't find the right trade.

If someone offers him even a 2 year deal which is likely after what he's shown the Jazz will have a hard time matching with Deron's contract coming up. They also have potentially 7 other expiring contracts that could open up more roster space in trades.

They have to make a trade in the next couple years to accomadate Deron's upcoming contract.

Depends on the rookie. They need help up front and behind Deron more than depth at the 2.

The Jazz should have two guys down in Orem if at all possible. Could be the same two guys but they have a big advantage over all but two other teams(which haven't used it as much) and should take full advantage of it.

Agreed but the additions of Almond, Fessenko, and Price last year says that the Jazz don't agree. Next year could be their best chance. Once Deron gets paid they won't be able to keep this group together.

Agreed other than it's not doubled til they go over the luxury tax which despite what LHM says I don't see happening. O'Conner says that draft picks are a big part of what they do economically but a 1st round pick is similar in pay to a veteran minimum.

The shame is that the Jazz didn't replace him with other vets. Losing a 6'1" starting shooting guard that wasn't being used properly and was overpaid was a good thing.

I'm 90% sure that rookie contracts don't count against the cap...

If we could get a defensive big for draft picks, I would be all over that.

The whole D-league thing lets us carry more contracts though, for better or for worse.

D-League doesn't allow you to carry more contracts.

I thought it did. Can't you have something like 15 players on the NBA roster and then call up players from the D-league if one of the 15 gets injured?

You can have 2 guys in the D-league but they are part of your 15.

Thats what I thought too! He claims to be from Midvale, Utah, though.

Interesting he shows up right when he left the other.

I might leave if it gets out of hand, (sorry mods and board)

For now I won't.

Zhou was banned in another forum. It was great until he showed up then gradually he killed it with his mis-quotes, and arguements he would always start. When he left, the forum came back alive. He was from China.... hence the name. And he is posting very similar.

Keep an eye on this guy for me will ya? Millions in the world, probably not him.

How long was AK left overseas when they drafted him? Might they be looking to do something similar this draft?

Not sure exactly but I think he was overseas for two years. that would be an excellant option for the jazz this year if there is a player out there with that kind of age and potential to grab.

thats right, in the time he was left in europe he helped win CSKA Moscow the eastern european basketball league championships, he entered the all star game and helped west beat east and was favourite to win the slam dunk contest. He had an eventfull 2 years didnt he

If we had done this with fesenko, i think he would be alot better on 2 years.
