Re: The Playoff Prediction Thread
Kiddlovesnets' play-off 1st round prediction:
W1 Los Angles Lakers(57-25) 4-1 Denver Nuggets(50-32) W8
Another match-up for Kobe-Iverson since 2001's NBA final. Still, the Lakers seem to be considerably better than Iverson's team and this series is actually the easiest to predict in the West Conference. Still, the Nuggets have chance to upset the Lakers, but it's just not likely to happen though. Lakers in 5.
W2 New Orleans Hornets(56-26) 2-4 Dallas Mavericks(51-31) W7
It's interesting to see the Kidd-CP3 match-up. CP3 already completely exceeded Steve Nash to become the best PG in the league at age 24. However, play-off series is nothing like regular season. The sufficient experience will power the Mavs to the 2nd round. It's a kinda similar to the Raptors-Nets series last year though. Mavs in 6
W3 San Antonio Spurs(56-26) 4-2 Phoenix Suns(55-27) W6
The best first round match-up in 21st century I've ever witnessed, since both teams are believed to be serious title contender in the beginning of the season. Nonetheless, the Spurs became better with the acquisition of Kurt Thomas and Demon Stoudemaire, while the Suns got worse at the loss of Thomas and Marion. It would be a tough series for both teams and hopefully, the Spurs would manage to clinch the next round. Spurs in 6
W4 Utah Jazz(54-28) 4-2 Houston Rockets(55-27) W5
A rematch for both team. A slight difference is that Utah has become a better team with Kyle Korver and a break-out season for Ronnie Brewer. With the huge improvement of Deron Williams, the Jazz is actually a title contender now. The Rockets are getting better as well, but they can't make any difference without Yao. Jazz in 6.
E1 Boston Celtics(66-16) 4-0 Atlanta Hawks(37-45) E8
Do I still need to explain anything about this. The best play-off team vs the worst play-off team this year... I would be surprised if the Hawks managed to win one game or not suffering at least two blow-out loss. Celtics in 4, undoubtedly.
E2 Detroit Pistons(59-23) 4-1 Philadelphia 76ers(40-42) E7
I must say that I'm impressed that the 76ers could make play-off and even landed the 7th position. They don't look a little bit like a play-off team, but they could even defeat good teams like the Celtics, Pistons, Suns and the Mavericks. Still, they won't get any further than the 1st round since the Pistons are impossible to be upset in the 1st round. Pistons in 5.
E3 Orlando Magic(52-30) 4-2 Toronto Raptors(41-41) E6
It's hard to predict which team will win this series. The Magic is obviously a better team overall, while the Raptors are also a solid team. The Magic's key to clinch the 2nd round is the use of Dwight Howard. This guy is a beast and managed to average 20+ ppg and 14+ rpg in a season. However, he sucks so bad in recent games and if the Raptors could manage to stop him, they are capable of winning the series as well. Magic in 6.
E4 Cleveland Cavaliers(45-37) 4-3 Washington Wizards(43-39) E5
This is the only series I would say to go for 7 games. The Cavaliers are a better team though, but they seem to know nothing about how to win games when Lebron fails to play in his best form. The Wizards are surely much better than last season and this is already the 3rd consecutive time for them to face the Cavaliers in play-off. Still, the Cavs would manage to clinch the Eastern semi-final if Lebron plays well, Cavs in 4.
