I was thinking about the Buss/Kupchak dynamic the other day and trying to piece things together for myself on what has changed this season, after Kobe's eruption.

Here is my theory (which could be completely incorrect):

I believe that Jerry Buss had gone into "retirement mode" for the last few seasons, post Shaq era. I believe it was his intent to leave the business to Jimmy and company.

Further, I believe that there was discontent with Kobe over Jimmy and how he was running the business...

Finally, I think it took Kobe's eruption to get Jerry Buss to realize his kid was not doing a good job of running the team, so he got back in the saddle and started working with Mitch to get this team back in shape. If you notice, we never hear Jimmy Buss's name hardly anymore...

Could there be any truth to what I am thinking or did I leave out some big stuff???

One thing we know for sure is that Jerry or a source close by at least said that Jerry would be handling the team again and become an active voice in whats going on..so your theory may be correct.

But oh may how things have changed..

I can only hope Mitch is saying that so he doesnt psyche out some of the players on the roster for the playoffs

So much anger lol

Not only are you a Pimp, but a quite knowledgable Pimp at that.

I never thought about the fact that we really don't hear about Jimmy anymore.

Cudos to Jerry for stepping in and getting things back in order. Glad he's the owner of the Lakers!!

What if we had an owner like Sterling?

It was frustrating because they were stuck in the rut for so long.
I just felt they weren't ambitious at all, almost content with being where they were. And way too risk averse which are some things I hate, the lack of ambitiousness and the fear of taking chances.

Things obviously have changed tremendously.

Not sure if I do have any theories.
Kobe tirade helped, I think.
There obviously was a switch of mentality in the FO, I think mostly evidenced by not the Gasol but the Ariza trade. They have started going for different type of players and became more aggressive. In the end, it payed off with Gasol.

It's so much better now to discuss things being so level headed but it sure was frustrating and it sure was taking the best of everyone. Kobe couldn't help it during the summer but as they say, what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. Things couldn't have worked out better regardless of what it is that changed.
