Default Shin pain

I am 14 years old, and on some days experience some discomfort in my shins.
It isn't too bad, I might get 2-3 inches lower when I jump or a bit slower. But it is annoying. I don't know why there is any pain there to begin with. Could it because I am growing? I'm 6'0, and i don't think i've been growing much lately but I don't know, i've grown an inch in the last 2 months.

But is this normal?

Where exactly is the pain? If you are changing training ground often (hardwood, grass, allweather track, etc)..it could be shin splints, broad term for a multitude of ailments...could be "growing pains", which is a bad term as well. If training goals have been affected, may be best to rest for a bit, or at least decrease training intensity. New tires (sneakers) may be needed as well.

I don't switch training ground that often, and i really don't train that hard. My shoes are almost brand new also. So, i guess it's growing pain?

I might try that strap thing that determined posted.

On an unrelated note, I had scoliosis testing at school today, and i have a slight curve in my back and my hips/shoulders aren't even

Well still thanks for the help guys

Generally, scoliosis would not have an affect on it unless there is leg length discrepancy. I would have your ATC or physician check you out for that.

If it is shin splints, an arch tape will be more effectiv ethan a shin wrap or circumference tape.

what is arch tape? What does it look like?. Where could I get it? Would a place like sports and academy have it?

Again, thank you for your time

It is actually a tape technique done by ATC's to help relieve plantar fascia problems, but also helps with shin pain. If you do not have access to an ATC, the shin wraps shown above would be your best bet, other than possibly some heel inserts, but with your scoliosis, not sure if that would be the best option.

I'm 15, and have had some bad knee and ankle pain from overtraining..I've been to the doctor a couple times, and going back today. You should'nt guess when it comes to your bones. Go see your doctor, its the best thing to do.

For the most part, this is the best advice. As with any internet injury post, just going with what is offered by the OG poster...can only tell so much. If it is not life threatening or leaving you at the point of not being able to train, then not a problem asking here, just take all advice with a grain of salt.

I only give info on each case based on my educational and professional experience, if I haven't seen a case in question, I'll stay away from it.

Thanks all for the help, it isn't too bad, and it's only in my left shin, but I made an appointment to go see a doctor. Apparently, they're so busy that I can't get in untill july 5, so i guess untill then, i should ease up a bit on playing/training?

I am 22 and I have been playing ball for quite a few years now, I always get pain inside my left shin when I play hard for a few days in a row. I have shin splints, you might too. As far as I know, there is not much I can do about it aside from waiting for the pain to subside or playing through it. I have been playing through it for 5 years now.

Wait, so is it constant on/off for you? Because on some days my shin will feel fine, and then on other days it will hurt.

Yes it is on and off for me as well. Mine flares up when I play really hard for a few days in a row, especially if I am spending a lot of time driving to the hoop (and launching off my left foot). Usually when my shins start hurting bad, I take a few days off and then when I go back out on the court I feel fine.
