I forgot to mention that Calderon's style is more of a past first half-court style.

I'm not sure you are grasping how this financially HELPS the Raptors.

The Raptors are giving up $16M and receiving $15M in contracts. That gives them $1M more this year. So that gives you $1M more for this off season. Raef and Rasho's contracts each end after next season ($12.7M and $8.4M, respectively). If you keep Rasho, you only get $8.4M for spending on free agents next year. If you take LaFrentz, you get $12.7M extras to spend on free agents next year (this is why LaFrentz is WIDELY coveted). That gives you $1M more this summer and $4.3M more next summer. Now if you are looking at keeping Rasho long term, thats one thing, but salary wise every GM in the league would take $12.7M coming off the salary cap rather than $8.4M.

Not every GM. First of all, it depends on what they have to give up. Second, many GM's would prefer not to take on a big contract. Third, the Raptors do not need $20m in cap room that much. The Raptors are already going to have plenty of cap room with the expiring contracts of Nesterovic,Garbajosa , Graham Parker and others, so why would they really want Lafrentz?

Ok. Just as long as you know that you get more cap room with LaFrentz. I must say though, I'm still baffled. So do you want Rasho in your long term plans?

The Raps like him and would not mind keeping him for a couple more years. The only thing is that he is not worth eight and half million dollars. So, Rasho would likely come back with a pay cut, possibly for mid-level money.Would he really figure into Portland's plans with Oden,Aldridge and Przybilla already there?

Whether the Blazers keep Raef or had Rasho, the Blazers will let the 3rd string center walk after next season. If it were just a matter between those two guys, I'd rather have Raef's contract go off the books at the end of next season so we get $12.7M off the books rather than $8.4M. Neither one of them are really desirable for the future of the team. I'd rather bring in fresh legs to train as the 3rd string. Maybe after next season, it will finally be time for us to bring Joel Freeland over.

Joel Freeland is a skinny 6'9".

He's a combo forward. Not a center

I remember when he was drafted that people were saying he was 6'11" - 7'0" <_<

But he's 6'9"

I guess the 6'11"/7' part stuck in my head. Still, I think once Raef is gone, it will be time to have young 3rd string center that is one of those potential guys. You know, a young guy that isn't great and demanding money yet, but in 4 years or so will be a viable replacement for Joel Przybilla.

I understand. From a Raptors perspective, though, they would be trading away somebody who started 39 games for them, provides leadership to the younger players, has a championship ring and late in the season, particularly after Bosh got injured, was one of their key weapons offensively. But from a Portland standpoint, I can understand wanting another big man with an expiring contract.

NBA.com has him listed at 6'10". Draft Express as 6'11". Both list him at 225.

Aldridge came in at those numbers and is now 245.

Well that could be ok, considering I'm talking about him as a 3rd sring.
