Jorge Garbajosa added 12 points, but more importantly played tight defense on Dirk Nowitzki and held the Germany star to just 14 points on 5-9 shooting.

"They really tried to keep the ball away from me and no one had any room to operate," Nowitzki admitted. "We couldn't get into a rhythm in the second half and couldn't create any open shots for anyone."

The key to the game was Calderon's dribble penetration as he broke down the German offense and dished out six assists in addition to his 20 points. The Spain marksmen hit 11 of their 18 three-pointers for an amazing 61 per cent.

Great news about Jorge's defense indeed!

Also, why is it that Calderon can shoot a high percentage in international play but not in the NBA? Against Germany he shot 89% for the game! And yet in the NBA his lack of shooting is a liability because the other team doesn't have ot guard him. I've seen him miss a ton of open looks for Toronto but nail them with a hand in his face for Spain. What's the deal Jose?

Wow!Spain showed they are a great team!Garbajosa just allowed Dirk to score 14 points and take 9 shots in 34 minutes. Also, he scored 12 points... congratulations Raptors! you made a good move signing him. Calderón(20pts) and Navarro(19pts) were also huge. Pau scored 16 points in only 21 minutes because Spain didn't even need him to play more.

A new star coming: Spain just won the under-16 Euro Championship, with PG Ricky Rubio scoring 51 points (13/25 2pt, 2/6 3pt and 13/17 FT), 24 rebounds, 12 assists and 7 steals!Great!

Nice to see Dirk passing pretty well. The last two games he has only shot 23 times but he has dished out 10 assists (5 in both) in the two games.

Btw, here are some of them:

so kind of you to be courteous in a situation like this, I just hope this helps you realize the power of The Beard. Mind you I had to swallow a lot of pride to talk to you during that Mavs/Grizz series after I had predicted at least 2 Grizzlies wins.

Spain wins against and Angola and clinches first place in their group
it was their closest game yet, only a 10 point victory, but Pau shone with 28/5/4/2/2, Rudy added 16, Garbajosa pitched in 15, and Calderon got 6 assists. Go Spain!

the USA could beat Spain if they make them run, run and run some more. The US is by far the deepest team, so they can keep coming in with fresh legs, which I think is one of the biggest dangers for any possible contenders

Agreed, but Spain plys better as a team and Jose will murder the US. defence and there inability to stop anyone from getting to where they want to go.

it's also possible that Spain has better post play than the USA, or at the very least you could say that the best post player on either team is Gasol (although Elton is about equal).

I hope they end up facing each other, it'll be fun to watch

As a spanish fan:

Our group is an easy group.
Then there are quarters and semis
In the way to the gold we can find Argentina, Lithuania or anyone else. Very hard games.
Then the final, probably against USA. USA is playing very well (Slovenia and Italy are decent teams).
The gold is far, far away.

But, GO ESPAÑA
