Default Day's Mock Draft ver.1

I posted the first 10 picks as a reply to another thread, but here is what I think the 1st round might be given that the teams keep their picks.

1. Bulls - D. Rose (hometown boy; and in my option the no. 1 choice for any team)
2. Heat - M. Beasley (who else?)
3. Timberwolves - OJ Mayo (they need a big time scorer more than a C)
4. Supersonics - Brook Lopez (need a big to go with the SF and SG from last years draft)
5. Grizziles - DeAndre Jordon (a big gamble that might payoff really well; can't pass on a C with good potential)
6. Knicks - Danilo Gallinari (6'10 forward body with great ball handles and shooting ability upto 3 point range, perfect for the new coach in town)
7. Clippers - Eric Gordon (great scorer who can shoot well from the outside will be great playing along Brand and Corey who like to play the physical game)
8. Bucks - Jerryd Bayless (I don't think the Redd and Mo Williams experiment is working out; new blood is needed in the backcourt to turn things around)
9. Bobcats - Darrel Arthur (they need a guy who can score in the front court; their PG, SG, SF, and C situation are not so bad, but Darrel Arthur is much smoother than Okafor on the offense)
10. Nets - Kevin Love (again with good scoring SG and SF like Jefferson and Carter and PG like D. Harris, they could use someone who can contribute offensively in the front court to take pressure off the outside shooters)
11. Pacers - Russel Westbrook (with healthy O'Neal, Granger, Dunleavy, and Tinsely, the addition of Russel Westbrook might allow the Pacer to really excel in a run-and-gun type of system)
12. Sacramento - Anthony Randolph (around mid-1st round draft, it is probably wise to pick the person with the greatest potential)
13. Blazers - Nicolas Batum (great offensive athlete with good all around still. He would be a perfect complementary piece bridging Oden and Roy together)
14. Warriors - Kosta Koufos (they need a big body since they are a pretty undersized team; Kosta has great passing skill and might turn out to be what they are hoping to get but did not get from Chris Webber)
15. Suns - JaVale McGee (a gamble, but it is time to prepare for post-Shaq, which is coming soon, if they are that there already)
16. Sixers - Chris Douglas-Roberts (a versatile scorer who has decent midrange game is what the Sixers need as they can't shoot and AI is having difficulties creating shots for himself this postseaon)
17. Raptors - Roy Hibbert (they need someone who can defend and rebound in the post to take pressure off Bosh; they were constantly getting killed on the glass)
18. Wizards - Joe Alexander (although only 6'8, he is supposedly very good playing the paint: both offensively and defensively; could come off the bench for Butler and Jamison nicely)
19. Cavs - Donte Greene (they need someone who can create shots for himself)
20. Denver - DJ Augustin (they need a PG and move AI to SG. AI dominate the ball too much, which makes Carmelo looks like he is not sure where he should stand from time to time. A pass first PG with AI and Carmelo running on either sides of him could be the answer/solution for Denver)
21. Nets - Jason Thompson (A good size PF who can shoot out to 15 feet and is supposed to be a decent defender is what they need to put beside Kristic)
22. Magics - Brandon Rush (good shooter and good scorer, you can never have too many of those to surround D. Howard)
23. Jazz - Chase Budinger (decent shooter and amazing athlete, perfect to run with D. Will on the fastbreak)
24. Sonics - Mario Chalmers (decent PG who can shoot the 3 and defend; maybe some competition with Luke is good for the team)
25. Rockets - Nicola Pekovic (great size to play both C and PF. He apparently love to play in the paint and be physical. Could be coming off the bench for Yao and Scola or even beat out Scola for the starting PF position)
26. Spurs - Will Daniel (Strong SF who has a great set of post moves; he could come in for Bruce and prove a new dimension)
27. Hornets - Wayne Ellington (they need a scorer off the bench and Wayne is their man)
28. Grizziles - Robin Lopez (they need a solid big)
29. Piston - Kyle Weaver (a solid combo guard with decent PG skills and good size 6'5 could provide stability to the bench; supposedly a decent defender too)
30. Boston - Omri Casspi (a athletic scorer is what the aging Boston needs to give them an energy boost)

opinions? except being too long to read...

Next 10:

31: Wolves - Bill Walker (why not? talented and his dunks might bring some excitement to a team that needs it)
32: Sonics - DeVon Hardin (good post defender is what they need to stop easy points from other teams)
33: Blazer - Joey Dorsey (energetic and aggressive force inside might be good influence on Oden)
34: Wolves - Ty Lawson (fast PG who has good passing ability is what the wolves lacks)
35: Clippers - Richard Hendrix (strong, solid PF who can help out Brand or be a replacement if Brand ends up elsewhere)
36: Blazer - Davon Jefferson (offensive orientated SF who might turn out better than Miles or worst. A gamble)
37: Bucks - JJ Hickson (I still don't think Yi and C.V. can coexist and if one goes, Hickson would be a valuable piece coming off the bench)
38: Bobcats - Goran Dragic (good size PG who loves to penetrate and can pass well off penetration; could be a solid player off the bench to keep the offensive flowing)
39: Bulls - Nathan Jawai (big big body with good strength and soft touch, could provide instant offensive in the paint coming off the bench)
40: Nets - Lester Hudson (good scoring combo guard who can come off the bench to provide instant scoring who greatly improve Net's bench rotation)

Why do you think Houston needs a PF. They need a athletic SF, SG, or backup C first and no rookie is coming in and beating Scola out of a job.

Nicola Pekovic has the body of a center and with post skills of a C too. He would be perfect to replace the ageless Mutombo. Nicola loves to get physical in the paint and I think the Rockets can use more aggressiveness.

for late 1st rounder, why not take a gamble. Your team is not all that bad without the draft anyway. Foreign or not, they said: "no risk no gain".

If Bayless is available at#7, Clippers are taking him over Eric Gordon easily.

Good post, but I suspect the first 8 picks will go a little something like this. I pretty much agree with most of your picks after that.

1. Bulls - Michael Beasley - unless they plan on dumping Kirk Hinrich (and they might), they don't really have that much use for Derrick Rose. Also, they're frontcourt is weak as **** in terms of scoring, Beasley definitely brings that.
2. Heat - Derrick Rose - obviously the Heat wanted him with which ever pick they got, they really need that PG now that Jason Williams sucks all of a sudden. Of course, it all depends on who Chicago picks, Miami gets the other one.
3. Timberwolves - Brook Lopez - getting Lopez would allow them to put Al Jefferson back at the PF spot, which is what he's more suited too anyways. Lopez is really a very solid center, with a great offensive touch. Brook will be the high post scorer, Big Al the low post scorer. Then they just have to hope that Corey Brewer bulks up a bit, and that McCants and Foye and Telfair can mature a little and form a decent backcourt rotation. They may take Bayless instead, of course, if they want to improve their backcourt instead. Basically, this team is a mess, and they're ****ed for years regardless of who they pick.
4. Supersonics - Jerryd Bayless - They could really use a consistent star point guard. Inconsistent and mediocre players like Luke Ridnour and Earl Watson are never going to cut it. If Minny picks Bayless, I guess they might pick Lopez, but they would need to dump some players because they have 4 different centers right now, not including Wilcox and Collison, who can both play center. This is another team that is an absolute mess and needs to start cleaning house.
5. Grizzlies - DeAndre Jordon - obviously, with the theft of Pau Gasol, they're frontcourt is a now a veritable blackhole of draft busts and bad contracts with Kwame Brown, Darko Milicic, Brian Cardinal, and Jason Collins. They need a big for the future, and Jordan will probably develop into that. Because the present is going to be reeeeeeeal painful. This team is another horrible mess, basically it's Rudy Gay, Mike Miller, two potentially decent young PGs, and then a whole bunch of near useless crap.
6. Knicks - O.J. Mayo - perhaps the messiest team in the entire league. They should take Mayo, slot him in at PG, and see what the hell happens. That is assuming that Marbury is getting dumped in one way or another. D'Antoni may persuade them to take Danilo Gallinari or even Nicolas Batum, which wouldn't be unwise, but I think that they may actually have a keeper in Wilson Chandler, and Reynaldo Balkman and Quentin Richardson give them pretty good depth at that position. Oh, and they BEST get the **** rid of Zach Randolph.
7. Clippers - Eric Gordon - they just need to take the best guard available, they're backcourt is absolute crap. Gordon could very easily become a solid SG for them, and could play some point as well. If Kaman and Brand are healthy, plus Corey Maggette and Al Thornton, this team has a great frontcourt, they just really lack a backcourt. Maybe they should trade Maggette for a legit PG...
8. Bucks - Danilo Gallinari - could easily be picked by New York of course, but if he isn't he will most likely go to the Bucks. This is actually a well structured team on paper, but they just plain suck for some reason. Maybe they should have drafted Chris Paul or Deron Williams instead of Andrew Bogut? Anyways they are really weak at SF, Desmond Mason and Bobby Simmons both kind of suck, although they have their talents. Danilo could develop into a very solid player. Plus they would have the most multi-cultural frontcourt in the NBA! Australian, Chinese, Italian!

Anyways, the draft should go that way, but most likely will not.

I disagree on on the wolves taking a big since they already have Al Jefferson in the middle who is a beast. They need a potent scorer like Mayo who can take over games offensively.

Also, D'Antoni would not pass on Danilo who will work nicely in his system like Diaw was able to for awhile. Plus, the last thing the Bucks needs is another big man who can shoot but can't consistently give you rebounds and interior defense. They have Yi and C.V. already.

Finally, I won't be surprised if Beasley is taken 1st by the Bulls, but think about the teams that have/had great point guards, they are all winners (Paul, D. Will, Payton as a Sonic, Stockton, old Kidd, etc) and Hinrich is a good PG but not great. I think great PG is absolutely vital for a team to be consider "elite". Bulls have enough trade assets (sign and trade) to get a good PF or C.

Why would the Pistons take another guard when we took Stuckey and Afflalo last year?

Well, for one thing Weaver would make for a terrific defensive stopper off the bench. He could play back-up PG, which clears the back-up SG position for Stuckey. That'd be a pretty tough bench tandem to deal with since both have good size.

On second thought, I agree with you...I was thinking that Kyle Weaver has decent size that he might take some SF duty too; also he is supposedly a good defender who will fit the philosophy of Pistons nicely. But now I think that someone like Nathan Jawai who is strong and has soft hand might fit in with Piston's current roster better
