Can't seem to find the relevance in what you just said.

I'M TALKING ABOUT BEATING SPAIN.

Could have swore I didn't say ANYTHING about being the best in the world. Just better than Spain.

You people either think too much or not enough.

Spain got better also. You are acting like US improved and Spain didn't.

Marginally at best.

Gasol improved? Oh wait, so did LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, and Dwyane Wade. Calderon? Okay. Meet Kirk Hinrich.

Marc Gasol? Okay. That's nice. Not as good as Jamison.

Our improvement makes their improvement meaningless and we beat them when we sucked in '04. Now, we don't suck and they're slightly better.

Do you really want to debate this? You really think Spain will beat us? Come even close?

We aren't playing who's the best roster on paper game. I bet you haven't watched Spain play in this competition yet. Their Zone D is great, great ball handlers unlike previous team and their offense is split up between post up and long ball so it's not just jacking up 3's. Basketball is a team game and Spain unarguably has better chemistry than usa.

We have chemistry problems?

Just like you say I haven't seen Spain play in this competition, you obviously haven't seen us play. No chemistry issues. We have the chemistry, athleticism and talent to win this competition.

As for the not "playing who's the best roster on paper game", the roster was basically the reason you gave me for them having improved. Blame yourself there, Joe.

[SARCASM]Apparently FatBoy lives under a rock.

Fats there is a new rule that states that Team US is only allowed to be rooted for during the Finals of these games. Up until that point you have to question whether or not they can win.

Regardless of the fact they are superior to the rest of these teams depth or talent wise. Ignore the fact that they have a coach who running the team to teh strength of the roster. Until the Championship Game comes you have to say the US can't win.[/SARCASM]

Chris has barely played on the perimeter, unless you consider jacking up contested 3s as perimeter play. Here is a question (not attacking you, but an actual question):

Why isn't Chris utilizing his mid-range jumper? He obviously knows its his strength and he can beat zones with it. Why is he trying to mix it up in the paint when he knows he can't? Is this his fault? Or is it the fault of Caoch K who is asking him to do something he can't/shouldn't?

First, let me say that Bosh's mid-range game is way over-rated on this board. Now to answer the question...

He's playing close to the hoop because Bosh is just not a highly skilled player at the moment. He's an amazing athlete but that's largely it. His skill level is just not high enough for him to play from the perimeter in these International game. Plus he has no knowledge of court spacing/movement/zone breaking so when he does get a chance with the ball he's looking at the defense with the  face.

I forgot I even made this thread earlier. But what the heck, here you go MaxFly, here are a couple more thoughts:

Good

Dwyane Wade as 6th man
One of the better lineup adjustments so far. As stated earlier, Chris Paul + Dwyane Wade in the same starting line is too much. With Battier replacing Wade, we gain versatile defense and excellent outside shooting in the starting line. With Wade as the 6th man, we get offensive firepower that complements Joe Johnson and Kirk Hinrich very well.

Bad

Closing out games
Lapses in team defensive intensity allow teams to make big runs against us, especially in the second half. Against slovenia, we were up 29 when they came back in the 2nd half on a 10-0 run. Against PR, we were up 20+ when they came back and lost by only 11. This doesn't really affect us in preliminary play, but can be deadly in the single-elimination round, especially against teams that will stick with us offensively (Spain, Argentina, Serbia, etc).

more to come later

I think the problems closing out games may be over now. That Italy game may have scared these guys enough to keep the intensity up until the game is well in hand.

Haven't the Brazil exhibition and PR preliminary round games scared them enough?

Guys, they have won every game they've played. Quit acting like they keep losing games. It is too difficult to dominate in this day and age. Other countries can ball now. But, no matter how much we win by... we are winning.
