Default Are The Rockets A True Championship Contender??

Now that T-Mac and Alston are healthy and now that Yao is so much of a better player and the addition of Battier i think they can go very far next year

Just look at the starting lineup

PG - Alston
SG - T-Mac
SF - Battier
PF - Howard
C - Yao

There's something terribly wrong with that projected starting Houstin line-up....its the name: JUWAN HOWARD. This man needs to be dropped. Old, senile, ugly shot...I dunno where to begin with his negative attributes. I'm so glad David Wesley is finally gone. Juwan needs to be moved and upgraded with youth.

Hopefully Howard gets re-energized, cause he's definitely getting old. He played solid in the end of the last season, but I agree, they should try to trade him. Otherwise, the Rockets are going to look good and look forward for the playoffs.

you guys could really use al harrington and get rid of juwan, but it seems like every team's forum has a thread about harrington coming to their team.

Why do we need Harrington? He plays SF and would make an undersized PF. He doesnt rebound or defend well. We dont need his scoring ability because we have TMac or Yao already. I dont see how he would fit on this team, other than coming off the bench as an offensive spark (which is not happening BTW).

Harrington actually plays both positions mainly pf and at 6'8" 250, I believe he could be more effective than Howard simply because he's versatile enough to play both forward positions. Also, Howard isn't quite the best defensive player and Harrington does rebound and defend just as much or even more than Howard. I could see him fitting on this team you need people who can score around T-Mac and Yao it keeps the defense honest.

No. They aren't a TRUE contender.

I can see them getting the 4th or 5th seed and getting to the second round, but nothing beyond that.

they are not a championship contender, but they are definitely a playoff team IF they can stay healthy.

Damn, I just rewatched the USA vs Greece game. Our new PG (V-Spanoulis) is damn good. Great handles, quickness, great penetrator and kickout passer, good free throw shooter and decent three-point shot. He's going to fit into our system just fine. Based on that performance alone, he'll probably be more effective than our current starting point, Alston.
