Huge game.
If the Spurs win, all bets are off.
You KNOW the Spurs will be fired-up and ready to go.
Can the Lakers match their intensity? or will they just take a victory for granted?

Whoever owns the glass will own the game.

That means LO better play to his full capacity.

the key here is the same as it's been all series imo:

manu ginobili's health.

if he's healthy and can rack up 20-25 points the spurs take it. if he can't get anything going then the series continues on as it has. the spurs have done just about everything so far without him. with him at any kind of playable level i really think the spurs can get out with the w.

Cry me a bleepin river! Kobe is playing w/ a fractured and torn finger on his shooting hand, left knee tendonitis and a lower back that's still not 100%. I don't see any excuses from Kobe or anyone else on the team.

Here's the REAL key to the series:

The Lakers are the better team.

Accept it and move on.

That's cool. What I'm trying to say is that at this time of the year, many players are playing through some sort of injury or two. I didn't hear the injury excuse when Manu went off for 30 points in Game 3. He sure looked pretty darn healthy to me.

How about giving some credit to the Lakers defense for containing Manu in 3 out of the 4 games thus far.

I think we should play the "game" because the Lakers are CLEARLY the better team and they're showing it where it matters.....on the court.

Before the series started, I predicted the Lakers in 5. They simply match up really well with San Antonio. If not for the piss-poor officiating in San Antonio (Kobe getting ONE free-throw attempt in 2 games, LOL)....this series would be even more lopsided.

Great:

-Lakers winning the title in Game 6 at the Garden (1985)

-Lakers winning again (1987)

-Magic's junior skyhook in Game 4 (1987)

-McHale's clothesline of Rambis (1984)

-Dick Stockton, Tommy Heinson, Brent Musberger and CBS' coverage of the NBA (including the BEST intro EVER): http://youtube.com/watch?v=hEdJC9OxzIs

Not so great:

-Dennis Johnson Game 4 buzzer beater (1985)

-Celtics winning Game 7 and the series (1984)

-Game 1 aka "Memorial Day Massacre" (1985)

-Gerald Henderson stealing the Worthy pass in Game 2 (1984)

-Magic Johnson missing 2 FTs and making boneheaded plays throught the series (1984)

i don't put much stock in what i read from lakers press statements regarding injury. isn't this the same group that said bynum would be back to play a few games before the playoffs started? these reports are more about sensationalism and sending two-sided messages than what's actually going on imo.

manu's 30 points came off of a lot of spot up shots, but he did have a few athletic moves to the basket, i'll give you that.

but kobe's game 4 looked extremely athletic compared to manu's game 3. if i had seen manu drop any tomahawk dunks or double pump back-dunks, i might be inclined to think differently. i've actually already seen highlight reels of kobe's game 4. it's a pretty sweet reel too.

maybe kobe's just tougher than manu if that's what you are asserting. i dont know. i can tell you one thing though, manu is less manu right now than kobe is kobe.

In all fairness, when has Manu ever performed reverse double-pump and tomahawk dunks? He has his occasional slashing dunk, put nothing spectacular. He's more of a layup guy.

Mentally, Kobe is the toughest player in the league (along with Iverson) and he plays through injuries really well. Look at that one guy in Cleveland who sits out games due to back spasms and sprained fingers on his NON-shooting hand. I agree that Manu is less than 100%, but you play with the cards you're delt. It's playoff time. No excuses.

Keep an eye out for the refs. This whole game could be one big makeup call for the Spurs.
