Default Gary Forbes - The Steal of the 2008 Draft-

I have been reading some draft reports and they said that Forbes is the most impressive player in the first 2 days of the NBA Pre Draft Camp. He also showed some glimpses that he is ready to play in the NBA because of his amazing footwork and body control

Height: 6'7"
Weight: 216 lbs
Wingspan: 6-10 3/4"

2007-08 NCAA Stats

19.4 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 3.0 apg, 72 % FT, 41.7 FG %

High School Career:
Scored 1,512 points and grabbed 766 rebounds during his high school career ... Established career records for points, rebounds and blocked shots at Benjamin Banneker ... selected the Newsday Player of the Year in Brooklyn as a senior and was nominated for City Player of the Year ... earned first-team All-City and All-Tri-State honors ... McDonald's All-American finalist ... Averaged 31 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots a game as a senior.

SUMMER OF 2007: Played for Panamanian National Team in the FIBA Americas Championship held in Las Vegas ... Averaged 17.8 points per game in four contest for Panama, which went 1-3 ... Averaged 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists, shooting 55.6 from the floor ... Scored a game-high 29 points against Argentina (8/26) as he made 6-of-14 from the floor and 11-of-13 from the foul line ... In win over Mexico (8/24), scored nine points ... Netted team-high 19 points against Puerto Rico (8/23), also grabbed seven boards ... In opening game of tournament, tallied 14 points and had three rebounds in overtime loss to Uruguay (8/22) ... Prior to Championships, worked out with the team in Colon, Panama for eight-day training camp ... Also worked Nike and Adidas camps.

Day 2 Draft Reports.

Quote:
On the other side of the ball, Gary Forbes was clearly the best player on the winning team. He looked extremely instinctive putting the ball on the floor and taking it to the rack, getting to the free throw line repeatedly and finishing impressively around the cup. He also made some excellent passes, showed nifty ball-handling skills, and generally left a very strong first impression. He’s not overly athletic, but he’s extremely smart and crafty, and he just continued to add on what was an excellent performance last month at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament. We’ll be watching him in the drills tomorrow to see how he shoots the ball from the perimeter.

Day 2 Scouting Reports

Quote:
For Team 2, the best player on the floor (and likely of the day) was clearly Gary Forbes, stringing together one of the best single-game performances (30 points, 7-16 FG, 15-16 FT, 26 minutes) we’ve seen in the last five years of the pre-draft camp. Forbes was incredibly aggressive putting the ball on the floor with either hand and making very strong moves to the basket, being very physical once there and in turn getting to the free throw line at will. His scoring instincts might be the best of any wing player at this camp, as he makes up for his lack of freakish athleticism with phenomenal footwork and body control, being able to quickly read and exploit angles, or move intelligently without the ball, in turn showing a very good basketball IQ that impressed many people here. Although his perimeter shot wasn’t a huge part of his game once again, he knocked down one of his two attempts from NBA range, which leaves optimism in that regard. He’s making a strong push for consideration in the early second round or possibly higher.

He seems like he is going to be a steal in the 2008 NBA Draft. He was never highly touted at the start of the Pre Draft Camp because of his lack of explosiveness and athleticism, but if you look back at his College Career it is proof that he can put up decent stats for his team.

Gary Forbes was projected as the 52nd pick in the NBA Mock Draft, and i am sure he is going to be a good addition for some veteran teams, who wants a young player that can be a decent scorer off the bench.

Yeah I said that too,he's got to find more consistency in his shooting because he was a volume scorer in college, and took a lot of bad shots.

Forbes is going to be a steal.

Shame his stock went up, would have landed perfectly otherwise for us to pick him up.

Agreed, he flying way under the radar and i think he has potential to be a good NBA player. Athletic and long. He will most likely be the rookie who no one talks about and then comes in and balls

He will need to work on his shot if he is shooting 41.7 FG % at UMASS. Only a PG will be even allowed to shoot around 40% in the NBA.

Or maybe his team was just so bad he took a lot of difficult perimeter jumpers.

Another Gary Forbes Trivia.

Forbes is one of two players to score more than 1,000 points in just two seasons at the University of Massachusetts. The other is Julius Erving.

Too Bad he showed his skills in the NBA Pre Draft Camp, and He impressed some of the talent scouts to considered him as an early pick in the 2nd round of the 2008 NBA Draft.

He scored 17 points and 4 rebounds on 4-11 shooting in 24 minutes. He is clearly regarded as the MVP of the NBA Pre Draft Camp, and i expect this kid to contribute immediately in his first season in the NBA.

Hopefully he will fall to the Lakers to replace Luke Walton.

Fck that POS. Walton fits just fine in our system. Trying to pack in as many low IQ athletic players as you can on one team has proved time and again it almost never works. One of the reasons the Lakers are so great is that they can shoot and pass, and almost all of them have better than average basketball minds. The Lakers already have a great crew that doesn't need to tweaked with for at least a couple of years. If he falls to us fine, but he don't get Walton's spot by default.

Another useless bit of trivia about Gary Forbes. He's the second player to play Pete Gillan at Virginia then transfer and win Player of the Year for another conference. The other player is Derrick Byars.

Judging by the scouting reports, Forbes isn't low IQ. It says his strengths are his natural instincts for the game and he doesn't have elite level athleticism, he gets by mostly with his cunning and smarts.

Walton chokes and can't shoot and isn't tough, I see this guy as an upgrade.

Walton is playing fine and is tough. He gets swatted like a white JO at the rim but he can pass great, you can see the other players eyes light up when he has the ball in his hands. He also is one of the clutchest rebounders in the entire league if there is such a term. He is a part of our system and the system ain't broke. It's that simple. I trust Phil more than you, and Phil gives him playing time over others for a reason.
