Larry Bird wasn't called Larry as much as Bird and he's way more famous as Bird, not Larry.

I seem to remember Pippen being refered to as "Scottie" alot more than "Pippen"

Can't really agree with your point. Didn't anyone of you notice the fact that those players you listed have one thing in common that their First name is either much shorter than their Last Name or their First name is not a common name?

For instance, Dwayne Wade is still called Wade 'cause "Wade" is much shorter than "Dwayne". in another case, Jason Kidd is called Kidd not Jason since "Jason" is a fairly common first name.

I usually call Tim Duncan, Timmy when I am referring to him in my posts. I always say Gregory, instead of Oden or Greg, aswell.
