Why would he continue to sign contract extensions paying him over $20 Million per season
garnetts new contract does not kick in until 2009 2010 at which point he'll be making 16 mill the first season 18.8 the following and ending in 21.2 per
that's several million less than the current 23.7 hes making this year and the 24.7 he'll be making next year under his current contract from the wolves...
if he had just had his current contract extended out with the max pay raises he'd have been making near 28 million plus per year by the end of the extention
so in essence he has taken a sizable paycut, in two years hell take roughly a 8 million dollar drop in salary and when compared to what he could have got when its all done he'll make roughly 35 million less.
that being said, even if he played for free the celtics would be over the cap for several years..
lastly asking a plyer to take less (which he did) is not how you run a basketball team, it's not up to the player to make life easier for the team, if you want to compete in the NBA you have to pay the talent their true value, because there are dozens of teams that would love to get a hold of garnett and would happily pay him more to play in their city...
