Default Anthony's representatives, Nuggets' brass to address trade rumors

The meeting is being initiated by Anthony, who has grown tired of hearing his name mentioned in trade rumors. His desire is to stay in Denver and he wants assurances from the Nuggets that they will not trade him. Anthony's party expects to get those assurances on Monday, according to the sources. If the Nuggets don't commit to building around Anthony -- and instead demonstrate a willingness to trade him -- he will ask to be moved. Believing he will remain with the Nuggets, Anthony has not put together a list of teams he wants to be traded to.

Speculation about a deal involving Anthony began in May when reports surfaced that New Jersey had contacted Denver about a trade for the two-time All-Star forward. While the likelihood of a trade to the Nets was never high, executives around the league insisted that Nuggets coach George Karl was indeed ready to trade Anthony.

Denver denied that it was looking to trade Anthony, but the rumors have persisted. Detroit recently offered Chauncey Billups and Tayshaun Prince for Anthony, but the Nuggets weren't interested. Denver countered with an offer of Allen Iverson or a package built around Marcus Camby, but the Pistons are only interested in Anthony.

Executives with other teams say Denver's management group is divided over Anthony's place with the team. They say Karl wants to trade him, but that general manager Mark Warkentien and club advisor Bret Bearup are against the move.

Anthony, 24, averaged 25.7 points and a career-high 7.4 rebounds last season but was unable to get the Nuggets out of the first round of the playoffs for the fifth straight season. Anthony struggled badly in this year's playoffs, averaging 22.5 points on 36.4 percent shooting in a sweep by the Los Angeles Lakers.

Great idea by Melo, if were not building around him he should leave because the team isn't using him correctly.

Oh, and who would have guessed that Karl was willing to trade Anthony

Any chance Karl could get fired over this? Regardless of whether or not Karl gets fired though, this meeting can only be good. Either the Nuggets build around Melo and we start winning games, or Melo gets traded and Melo starts winning games!

Coach Karl seems to have the full backing of Stan Kroenke, so I doubt if Karl will be fired anytime soon. However, since it's public knowledge that Karl wants to trade his star player, it's highly unlikely that he will be able to motivate Melo to perform at his best. Thus, one of them has to go.

It's sort of like a marriage, once one of the partners lets it be known that they want the marriage to end, it's almost impossible for a meaningful reconcilliation. Karl seems to have a strong reputation of dissing his players in public, and it didn't help Melo's cause for him to publiclly accuse the Nuggets coaches and players of quitting. Looks like this one is going to divorce court and if Melo is traded, I hope the Nuggets get good players for him.

Their track record in trades hasn't been very good over the past several years. They seem to get stuck with injured players with very high salaries, with the exception of AI, who has played like a super star. I applaud Melo for taking the initiative in ending this melodrama, no matter how it turns out.

This organization was divided since George Karl came into town. Karl is a guy who seems to hate star players with the exception of Sam Cassell. I think this meeting will either have a positive outcome or a negative outcome.

The positive is Melo leaving knowing that he can be successful with a new team that has a coach that wants him. OR there will be an agreement to build around Melo, no questions ask except to ask if Karl can be fired, if it doesn't work out Karl NEEDS to be fired during the season, promoting Dantley to coach the team.

The negative is Melo staying and having the thing with George Karl in mind and tension between the two could build from this. OR leaving Denver and leaving us all thinking, what could have been.....

Hopefully a good decision is made, I want the best for Melo because he is a talented player that deserves more than a coach that doesn't want him. If he does leave Denver then we all need to really focus on this draft and hoping J.R., Kleiza, and Nene will be able to roll with this.

*Note: If we lose both Melo and J.R. this year, do you guys think we should be worried?

the articles are usually only right about the centerpieces of the trade. if denver trades carmelo they would almost certainly include filler to bring back the expiring contract of mcdyess. either Nene or Camby.

McDyess has a high likelyhood of being included in any deal the pistons make, because of his expiring contract and the fact that him leaving would benifit Maxiell and Amir.

as for the deal being rejected, I'm sure talks are ongoing. More than likely the Nuggets are just holding out for Stuckey or Amir, which they won't get. George Karl wants Melo traded and Kroenke still hasn't fired him. how can you keep both next season? its clear who the ownership supports, I think Denver is just playing it smart insisting they won't trade him. If Anthony had gone to that meeting and officially demanded a trade, the Nuggets would get less for him since teams know they can play hardball.
