Why didn't Sabonis come to the NBA in 1989, instead of going to Spain? The Blazers might've just been unstoppable if he did.

I think it was like... uh... there was like this um.. communism thing going on in ERurope at the time... where like um.... they wouldn't let him play in the US... like I think that was it.

Duncan isn't really 'foreign' born. The Virgin Islands is owned and is propety of the United States.

My, what a marvel at sarcasm. Goober.

In 1989 he was allowed to leave the Soviet Union but he didn't go to the NBA and instead chose Forum Valladolid, and Real Madrid in 1992, whom he led to league championships in 1993 and 1994 and to the European Club Championship in 1995. He was named European Player of the Year four times.

This is implying that the option was available.

As for the topic itself:

Hakeem Olajuwon is the best international player who also played college ball and played in the NBA

Dirk is the best international player who did not play college ball but plays in the NBA.

Sabonis is the best international player to play outside the US.

Sabonis's prime unfortunately wasn't in the NBA.
