The Grizzlies didn't like that trade, for some arbitrary reason, and there was a seperate report of a trade between Portland and New York: Jack + #13 + #27 for #6 + Lee. Evidentally New York was aiming for someone who would still be there at #13 and wanted a pick for "free" to go along with it.

Wha??? I'm pretty sure the NBA can "market" anything it wants to. San Antonio isn't what one would call a great "market". Why would the league go to extraordinary measures just to prevent good front office work?

There's no way that these two teams can share that much stupidity is there?

That would be rediculous for Portland. #13 -> #5 and #27 -> #6, and all they lose is a defensive center (who I like quite a bit, but not enough to renig this deal) and a combo guard who leads the league in assists and turnovers off the bench.
short bus... much?

how could anyone respond to this when it makes absolutely no sense

Seriously? How did they screw that up back in '77?

How can you say that "no one can market Portland" when Portland as a city has been named the most livable city in the US for almost a decade, is the center of a lot of civic and city planning models, and has a public transit system so good that NY, LA, Chicago et. al. have basically been trying to copy it?

These things all have nothing to do with basketball, I understand, but Portland as a city is becoming a tourist spot for being so different from "big cities" across the country. A lot of people describe Portland as a Europeon style city in the middle of America, which is an interesting description for sure.

And in the next 20 years Portland is projected to double in size... it's one of two major cities in the entire country where the housing bubble didn't completely screw property values because people are still buy land and moving here.

In short, your view of Portland as unmarketable is 15 years old.

so memphis can possibly have a starting frontline of milicic, kwame & the vanilla gorilla? SICK

typical night for them, 30 rebounds, 5 blocks, 10 dropped passes and 2 points to go along with 4 missed dunks

damn skippy the nba vetos this trade. stern's not gonna want 08-09 grizzlies game tapes to be used as pros vs joes footage

One trade that they reportedly offered was Mike Conley to Portland in exchange for the #13 pick, Sergio Rodriguez and Travis Outlaw. Another offer was to Detroit: the #5 and filler for Rodney Stuckey, which was rejected. If Memphis keeps the pick, we’re hearing they like Eric Gordon, as well as Kevin Love.

Mike conley in portland would be money.
Detroit is crazy if they rejected stuckey for #5.

I've repeatedly read that Memphis has turned down every trade that could include Conley. I don't buy this.

Memphis is the dumbest franchise in the history of the NBA. They do stupid crap all the time. The most recent is the Gasol ordeal. DUH - so lopsided of a trade it wasn't even funny.

What a joke they are

If Memphis makes this deal I will laugh as their Franchise disinegrates, there is no possible way Memphis can convince fans to see their product if they are trying to put a worse untalented product on the court.
