UNRESTRICTED Free agents that the Raptors can realistically sign (but not necessarily want):
James Posey
Earl Boykins Chris Duhon
Tyronn Lue
Devean George Eduardo Najera
Jarvis Hayes Mickael Pietrus
Matt Barnes
Kareem Rush
Quinton Ross
Rickey Davis Bostjan Nachbar Desagana Diop Jannero Pargo Bonzi Wells
Carlos Arroyo
Keyon Dooling Brian Skinner James Jones Damon Stoudamire Kurt Thomas
Francisco Elson Roger Mason
Pargo would make a great backup PG. Diop the backup centre. James Jones another 3-pt shooter, and Bonzi Wells the rugged slasher (a poor man's Maggette).
Pietrus is the only player there I'd want. Duhon is good but we have PGs waiting in the wings in Europe for the backup role. Fransisco Elson is possibly a mild upgrade at the 2.
There doesn't seem like there is a SF out there that is absolutely perfect for us.
The UFA crop is a little lack luster for us.
PG's that interest me as back-up.
Chris Duhon
Anthony Carter
Jannero Pargo
Jacque Vaughn
Damon Stoudemire
These are only wing players that I consider it an upgrade worthy of spending good money on.
Mikael Pietrus
Corey Maggette
Michael Finley
There are a couple others that I like but would only be bench players and with Kapono still here we don't need another.
I think I'd also consider a cheap veteran back-up center just in case Andrea doesn't rebound and JO get's hurt.
Jamaal Magloire
Chris Mihm
Michael Doleac
Francisco Elson
What happened to the back up center we got from Detroit last year?
He was exprirng - did we let him go to Euro ball?
Guy was a Russian or something. Keep him - he seemed to have some tools.
___
I say use FA money for a back up PG.
Jose is great but I dont want to see Delfino or Kapano bring up the ball when Jose sits down.
__
I say we still have Moon, Joey and Parker in the 2-3 rotation.
Move at least 2 of them and pick something off the FA list.
Primoz Brezec? Slovenian. Is a terribly poor basketball player. A complete liabililty and no where near good enough to play on the raptors, even as a 4th backup.
Backup PG? Most everybody knows that Roko Ukic is slated to be the backup PG for the Raptors this year. The 2005 pick has finally completed his contractual obligations in the Spanish League. He's leaving Rome to come here. A third PG is a possibility. To sit on the bench, something from the dollar bin.
Hopefully Ukic can surprise me because I am pretty low on him. I know that he won't be playing heavy minutes but he seems more like a combo guard to me. However, it will probably be more of a benefit to have more scorers off the bench with Ford's production gone.
Why hasn't anyone mentioned Beno Udrih? I think he'd be a really good back-up to Jose Calderon. He really improved last season and I think he hasn't reached his ceiling yet. I see him as a lesser version of Calderon.
I feel we get him and we'll still have one of the best back-up PG in the league.

Because he is going to get the full MLE and is most likely staying in Sacramento he is also looking for a starting job.
Ukic isn't much of a PG, he's more of an undersized SG.
Plus since we are taking the next step this season we are far better off going with somebody who has experiance and is proven not some unknown.
Ukic might really be a terrible PG or great, nobody knows unless you are one of the view that have watched alot of him over there these last few years.
Either way, he's in Toronto in Sept and is the backup PG. He'll get his minutes especially at the start of the season, but could be gone after that.
One thing is for certain though, I can't see BC spending the very few remaining FA $$ on the 3rd PG when he still has to add bodies elsewhere. Such as a C. We read that our newest aussi friend isn't ready yet, right?

Yeah, wanting to start is a good reason to stay in Sacramento. I still say we should make a play for him. Don't we have the MLE to spend as well? I wouldn't mind if it went to Udrih...

Yeah we have our full MLE but we have more pressing needs than to get a PG who wants more minutes than we can give.

I dunno...we don't have a back-up PG right now and to me that's a huge need. Especially if the goal is to make a deep run in the playoffs. Yes Parker and Delfino (if he stays) can play some point but they are not a viable solution for an entire season.
Just saying when I look at the Raps right now, that is the most pressing need...Unless I'm forgetting something lol.

From your post count I see that we should be saying welcome to the Raptors forum. Welcome to ISH!
BTW - if you read through the thread before posting, you can often learn something from other posters. At the very least you won't repeat a question or statement or miss keys facts.

All the best.
Thanks Man. Did I really repeat something? I read through the thread as I always do before posting in one. I guess I missed something.
Anyways, jump in on this conversation we're having. I'd like know people's opinion wether they agree with me or not. (as long as you can articulate it. I'm just down to talk basketball. Not trying to prove anything) Maybe even let me in on what I missed.
