Default A fan site thinks Stephon Marbury might be waived

Quote:
Although “Starbury” has stayed in the spotlight throughout his trials and tribulations with the Knicks past GM and Coach Isaiah Thomas, partly due to his more than affordable brand of basketball shoes, he has been out of the hearts and minds of basketball fans for quite some time now. The latest word trickling our way to the writers at The Hoop Doctors is that Donnie Walsh is preparing to waive the oft-troubled point guard.

After a series of meetings between James Dolan, Knicks GM Donnie Walsh, and Head Coach Mike D’Antoni it has become apparent that the long term future of the organization does not include Stephon Marbury. There are concerns among D’Antoni’s coaching staff that keeping Marbury around to play out his contract will have an ill effect on the team unity that D’Antoni would like to create among his players. The Knicks have been open to trade discussions for most of their squad this off-season but given the hefty $21 million owed to Marbury for the 2008-09 season (his final year on the contract) there is no one the Knicks could get in return that would equal the value they will get out of letting his salary come off the books. It is no surprise that the Knicks will gladly dump salary wherever possible to aid their salary cap situation for the next couple of years when some big name free agents will become available. Some names are so big they need not be actually named. We all know who we are talking about…

So what is left is just a short wait for the final sign off by Dolan to eat another $21 million or whatever number figures to be the final negotiation on a buy-out.

Now let me list the possible destinations once again because he will be signing with a competitor.

East:
Boston
Cleveland
Miami
Orlando

West:
Denver
Golden State
Los Angeles Clippers

If Baron Davis doesn't wind up as a Los Angeles Clipper and with Udrih off the market it looks like Starbury could get the nod over whoever is left in Free Agency at PG,but I think he ends up in Cleveland when all is set and done.

I think if Starbury is waived, Baron Davis will be the new PG in NY. He has expressed interest in playing in New York before. Then again this could conflict with the Knicks plans at having a go at Lebron...

Sounds like a great idea for New York in a Sign & Trade sending Crawford,Malik Rose,& Balkman to Golden State in return.

hmm....not sure if this is the right move.

They should try to shop him since his contract is expiring. Why waive a person in his last year of contract...

Either way, getting rid of Marbury is the start of curing the bad Apple.

Yeah he'd blend in with the atmosphere of players they seem to have on that team,he'd fit in well and I think him & Iverson are good friends so maybe they could co-exist in the backcourt.

They could use a veteran point guard like Marbury in Seattle. They have some cash but I'm not sure if they have enough for Marbury.

And get what in return?

You shop those big expirers to get something in return and what is or possibly on the market other than Vince Carter?

As I said earlier that if New York shopped him they would get back 2-3 role players on an already crowded team due to the contracts on it.

Their GM is from SA,I think their trying to put "High Character" guys around Westbrook/Durant/Green.

Chris Wilcox's gun charge is one of the reasons they're shopping him.

Boston seemed like a possible destination when Rondo was struggling and the issue between Marbury-Isiah was going on before Marbury opted for minor ankle surgery instead of returning to the team.

I doubt it because it looks like they could be signing Tyronn Lue since he's cheaper, has Championship experience and would be an upgrade over Sam Cassell imo.

That's a random fan site, probably just speculating. They also spell Isiah's name wrong.
