The Lakers biggest weakness right now is the 3 position. Vlad and Luke are just not athletic enough and Lamar can't hit open jumpshots. That matchup killed us in the Finals and allowed Garnet to roam around in the paint.

We need a small forward who can:

1. Hit an open jumper -- Lamar is inconsistent and he usually passes them up to dribble right into the teeth of the defense and ends up with a charge, turnover, or "weenie" shot. If we had a Ray Allen type shooter, it would be over

P.S. I miss Caron Butler

2. A guy who can create a little bit of off the dribble

3. Better defense at the 3 position

I'm curious to see how well Ariza will develop with a full year in the triangle offense. I'm not too big on an Artest trade because I don't feel that he really satifies points 1 & 2 well enough for the Laker's needs.

Artest is both a better shooter and a far better scorer off the dribble than Ariza, so I'm not sure how Ariza satisfies 1 & 2 better than Artest does.

I agree with you right now... like I said, I want to see how Ariza develops.

Based on my criteria, I think that Artest is better than Odom. However I don't see a trade going down because of money and the fact that LO is a good guy and well-liked by the organization. Plus, in a straight up deal, what do the Kings gain?

Right now, I think LA will take a wait and see approach with Ariza. We might talk to Posey as well, but we can't afford him either.
