Default Pistons Interested In Posey

The Pistons are interested in 6-8 forward James Posey, FoxSports.com and the Boston Globe reports.

The FoxSports Web site writes: Although the newly crowned champion Celtics don't want versatile sixth man James Posey to leave as a free agent, he made only $3.2 million last season and both the Detroit Pistons and Los Angeles Lakers have shown considerable interest in landing the deluxe defender who seemingly always knocks down the open 3-pointer.

Posey shot 12-for-24 (50%) from the three-point line in the NBA Finals vs. the Lakers.

But Posey could re-sign with Boston.

Celtics GM Danny Ainge told the Globe: "Posey will be a guy we'll be talking to right away. He's a top priority for us. Once we start there, we'll move toward other free agents and go from there."

Posey's agent Mark Bartelstein didn't mention teams, to the Globe, but he did say Posey is expected to get "a lot of interest" and could visit other teams. The Celtics and Pistons can offer the mid-level exception, which is expected to be about $5.8 million next season.

The 6-8, 217-pounder averaged 7.4 points and 4.4 rebounds in 24.6 minutes per game last season. The Sixth Man candidate also made key plays and shots during the playoffs, and has been a key player in two of the Pistons three most recent playoff ousters.

I like Posey's game and he certainly fills a need Detroit has had for a few years as a backup SF. What I don't like is he's probably going to get the full MLE from a team. I just don't think he's worth that. I don't like getting a player while his stock is as high as it will get. I don't want Detroit to overpay for him. I like the idea of him leaving Boston. Let's hope another team gives him the full MLE. Obviously, the guy doesn't want to make 3 million per year, which is really what he is probably worth. He only has career averages of 9 ppg and 5 rpg which last year was only 7 and 4. To me 5 to 6 million per year is too much for that kind of production. I don't want him to end up with Nazr money and end up giving us Nazr production. I'd be all for it if he would sign for half of the MLE.

I would say a few teams are interested in Posey. And I dont blame those teams. He has shown he can play even though he is getting old
