Default Wizards re-sign Gilbert Arenas for 6 years, $111 mil

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/wizar..._around_1.html

Quote:
Arenas told me a little while ago that he has agreed to a six-year, $111 contract. The Wiz had offered the maximum level contract, one that would have paid him between $125 to $127 million over six years. Arenas said he is willing to take less in order to help the Wizards have room to add key pieces over the next few seasons.

Washington is also targeting James Posey, this also frees money that will allow the Wizards to retain the services of Roger Mason Jr.

Wizards have been reportedly targeting Posey because of Butler's predisposition to injury, they want someone to spell him. I wonder if Maggette is an option as well.

just the right money for him... props to arenas for not overpricing if this is true

$16M less could sign a better back up for jamison and haywood....

wiz should sign him for only 4 years like jamison, this way if it doesnt work out, both leave and they have ALOT of cap space...

I wonder what the Warriors do if Brand doesn't take the offer either...Go on a rampage and try to sign Iguodala, J Smith, Deng, etc?

big deal... he took 16 mil less on 127 mil dollar deal, trying to make it sound like hes unselfish and helping his team. take a league minimum deal to help out your team *****, you'd still make a hell of a lot more than the average person

arenas would be 32 when the contract expires just right setting because if washington will let jamison go after 4 years arenas might not sign with them again and that might be his peak washington wants to get hold of arenas as long as they can.

Why should he?!? Arenas has worked hard for the money he is being given. Sure we might not think he deserves, but shoot I congratulate Arenas on being able to get such a great contract. He's worked hard and just like everybody he deserves the money he is getting.

Anyone who says Arenas is still taking a lot of money, youre right, but youre also nitpicking. The guy is taking $16mil less, thats essentially him giving his own money to sign another player who can help the Wizards cause.

Good job Gil, he's still being paid an extraordinary amount of money, but is still able to pull the unselfish card because the team was willing to pay him more than he took. Well played.
