I guess if the Lakers don't trade include Lamar Odom in the deal than that means the Rockets or the Mavs will become front runners for Mr. Artest.

You are correct in saying that Artest is capable of being productive on the floor. Artest can easily make a 55 win, conference finalist into a 60 win team that may be favored to win it all. He can also turn that same 55 win team into a 50 win second round exit caliber team by getting a little selfish (which he has a tendency to do)...or worse, he could turn them into a 40-win fringe playoff team. With Artest it's not a question of if, but when.

Sorry, but I don't see how Artest is selfish at all or how any ounce of selfishness in him would bring the team down. If anything, Marion is more selfish than Artest.

Then you haven't been watching him much or paying attention to what others have mentioned in this thread.

He wants to be "the man" on offense, and there's not anything necessarily wrong with that. The problem is he takes ill-timed shots when he feels like he isn't getting his share of the ball. It drove the Pacers staff crazy and it's driving the Kings crazy now. On numerous occasions, the Pacers would have an out of bounds play set to be run with 4-5 on the clock, and Artest simply wouldn't even know the play. All he knew is that he only had 12 shots earlier in the game when he felt like he was owed 15, so he'd take the ball and shoot a 20 footer when no one else on the team had any clue what he was doing.

When Ron-Ron played the Lakers, he wanted to showcase himself vs. Kobe, so he'd chuck up 27 shots, and get his 20 to 25 pts. The problem is he'd go 9 for 27 from the field.

When Ron-Ron only got 12 shots in the last game, he'd want his the next game. So he'd chuck up a 5 for 22 night.

You can see it on his face when Ron-Ron gets into me mode. One of the greatest shooters in NBA history would be waving his arms wide open from behind the arc and a pre-injury Jermaine O'Neal would have a guy isolated on the post. But Ron-Ron wanted to beat his man off the dribble with a pull up 17 foot jumper. Smart.

wtf are you talking about? he was just on best damn sports show saying he doesn't want to play offense at all. he wants to play nothing but defense. he said he wanted nothing to do with carrying the load in the sac town, but sometimes he was forced to be the #1 option on offense for obvious reasons.

Uh, who cares what he says on TV? The guy changes his mind every 5 minutes, and anybody who paid attention to the kings last season knew about his selfishness. He even admits to trying too hard to win, thinking he can do it all himself. For every win Ron has the ability to get, he has the same ability to create a loss.

haha, Martin is a better offensive player by far. I can't believe you listen to what Artest says. He says the most bizarre things in the world. Heck, he just recently said he wants to stay in Sacramento, and that's obviously not true any more.

He would have lost 3 million this upcoming year, but couldn't have the Lakers simply re-signed him next year for like 8-9 million...and re-sign Odom for 7-8 million?

I mean Bynum, Gasol, Artest, Bryant, Fisher.
Odom as the 6th man, are world champs for the next 3-4 years...

Honestly, Artest sometimes shoots his team out of the game, but if Phil and Kobe can control him to play defense and take quality shots, he would make the them better.
