The problem is that they just signed Brand to a huge contract, Dalembert and Miller have 20 mill combined still on the books, and a few other fairly big contracts, so for sure the Sixers don't have as much money to offer as they did before. They didn't make locking up Iggy a priority so either they will have to offer him less than what he wants, or pay up and face luxury tax penalties.
They'll face the luxury tax penalties. They knew that going in. Once source said the Sixers tried to offer Lou a starting salary of something like 3.8 mil. I hope that's not true because he's worth more and it would probably just piss him off.
Only guys on the list that are definately better than Meka are the first three. Put Meka on that list and he is the best defender by a landslide (cept for maybe Camby). Basketball is played on both ends.
Yes. Basketball is played on both ends. You have to watch basketball to know that Camby is not a good man to man defender. You know who George Karl believes is the best on ball defender on their entire team is? Kenyon Martin. Camby is just a help defender and a great one at that, but his man on D is bad. Just like Josh Smith's used to be (I didn't watch Josh Smith last year much, so I don't know about his man-to-man D, but all his previous years were horrendous). Simply put, Okafor is a better defender than Camby...
Andre Iguodala is the future for Philly. He is asking for that amount of money, because he knows he is he future. If he doesn't get it, he accepts the qualifying offer and he bolts after the season is done. Which will put all the "Philly is an up and coming team" threads to sleep. He is a key and Philly must sign him for success beyond this upcoming year...

Which is my main point. If we're talking strictly from a defensive standpoint Emeka is among the top 10 in the league without question, but as you said basketball is played on both ends, and Okafor regardless of making about 14 points a night is not really an offensive threat and that makes a big difference in such a discussion. I may have exaggerated with some on my list, but i'd take most on that same list before Okafor.
he was getting offered 11.4 a year last year. That over 6 years would give him 6 years, 68.4 million. We're just giving him another 6.6 mill, and when Deng is making possibly 80 million Iguodala definitely deserves that. He's a much more diverse player than Ellis, on both ends of the court, so he deserves more money than him. Maybe not 12.5 a year, but I'm fine with 12...and at that point you just give him the extra 3 mill over 6 years

I wasn't responding to your post before, I was just addressing LJJ and how he said that Camby might be a better defensive player than Okafor. From your list however,
Dwight
Amare
Yao
Big Z
Bogut
Al Jefferson
Marcus Camby
Andrew Bynum (potentially)
Chris Kaman
Tyson Chandler
I would pick
Dwight, Amare, Yao, Bogut (debatable), Al Jefferson, and Kaman as guys who would I pick most likely pick over Okafor.
The problem however is, what do I have on my team? If I got Tim Duncan. I am probably picking Bogut over Okafor, because of the way he can pass and the way he upped his help defense by not only blocking shots but taking charges. However, if I got Camby on my team already, and my back court has enough scoring, I am probably leaning towards Okafor than Bogut, just to solidify my front-court.
In the end though, overall I would probably still pick Bogut over Okafor...
