Default all usa hype for nothin...

all the disses/negative comments made about 2004 team..and all the new expectations and new/improved program for usa basketball meant nothing. the result will be the same at best if we can beat spain/argentina. im dissappointed...

I called it from the start after watching the first exhibition. Their star players cant shoot(except Anthony) or play fundamental defense.

They really need to think about Chris Paul and Lebron being there in 2008. They have the ball in their hands too much being that their games dont fit FIBA. Id rather have the ball in Kobe or T-Mac or Bibby hands.

They need to get rid of:

Joe Johnson
Chris Paul
Chris Bosh
Lebron for another superstar or put him on the bench
Miller
Jamison

I guess to be honest with you, there wasn't really that much hype. Alot of people didn't expect much from this team.

i think they have to abandon this 24 man thing.

They need to upgrade Joe Johnson. He has the skill set but gets lost out there for some reason, probably because he isnt a star like the rest.

Default As sad...

as it sounds the loss does sort of vindicate the '04 Olympic team for much of the underserved negative press that they received. The loss has nothing to do with an inability to play "fundamental" defense but rather resulted from the fact that the time the US has to prepare is just simply not enough for them to play the level of team defense against veteran teams that all know their roles offensively and have played together for years.

The poor free-throw shooting didn't help but we were beaten by a more cohesive team not because of the players unwillingness to play a so-called "team" game but because it's simply impossble to look as much as a "team" as a more experienced (together) squad. It's not a matter of guys not "playing the right way" or "having poor attitudes". It's simply more difficult than many imagine with the rule changes and offensively for guys to figure out roles when they are all 1st or 2nd options on their team.

Furthermore, the big black guy for Greece killed us when Greece went on the decisive run and not having a physical defensive presence (Duncan, Wallace)really hurt us. Howard will be that in a few years.

All this being said, if this team stays together they will win in the Olympics but i don't think Brad Miller should be a part of the team. The gap (in talent) is simply not enough any longer to make up for the advantages that the other countries have over us.

D.Howard/Greg Oden
Charlie Villanueva/Lamar Odom
Carmelo Anthony/Ron Artest/Tayshaun Prince
Kobe/T-Mac Or Micheal Redd
Chauncey Billups/Mike Bibby/Kirk Hinrinch

Thats the team i would send to compete for the gold. Wade is my boy and i absolutely hate Ko*****, Kobe shoots better anywhere from the floor than Wade. If Wade had a deadlier J, he would be over Kobe.

Ya there is but it would probably include a few Americans who are currently playing in Europe and understand the international game.

To be honest is thought this team was a bad idea to begin with. They had WAYYY too many young guys, they had only a couple of veterans and they all sucked, like Miller, Jamison. They only got people that could shoot threes thats about it. They should've gotten proven veterans that played defense, like Billups, should've kept bruce bowen, guys like that but i think colangelo really thought that he could win with the class of 03 and two or three veterans.

I guess it just goes to show that you can't teach experience.

i think you keep Bosh too, he really came on strong the last 3 games and was one of the better defenders on the team, and found his shooting stroke once he figured out his role on the team. it sucks they only played him 5 minutes today

EDIT: keep Hinrich too
