sure, but you dont sign away RFAs from other teams with a fair offer. you have to overpay to get a good RFA. and as someone pointed out, who else is worth going after this year or next with all the memphis capspace? I dont see the FA market next year really having many gems

Yup. Plus Smith doesn't like Woodson (to say the least) and he can't be happy with the lack of a quality offer from the Hawks. There's been plenty of sign and trade rumors about Smith for the last week or two, so maybe they do match but they work something out with the Griz. Who knows?

Matching the offer is obviously the Hawks' best option, but we don't know where Smith's head is at. It's possible that he doesn't want to go back to Atlanta at this point.

Even if Smith signs they would have a lot of perimeter players but no inside presence or defensive anchor. This team would be (as somebody already mentioned) basically the Warriors light. As constructed this team would never have the defense or ability to score in the half court to have a shot for a title.

This team would put fans in the seats, but wouldnt likely put them in any real contention unless they somehow acquired a legit center. They would be all running, no D, no post game. But it would be exciting to watch that young core

Southwest division would get still more spectacular, but the Hawks will match.

Good move

conley is just like cook...both got to the NBA thanks to Greg Oden. Both Cook and Conley will never be more than disapointments.

Memphis doesn't have many things to trade. Only Shimmy's expiring contract and one of the guards (Lowry or Critt) could be put in the table. It is clear the Haks will match, so I don't really worry too much. The only good thing is that it looks like Wallace has waken up after a summer of silence, even if this movement was in vain.

they are about as likely to go to the finals as they are to win the lottery. In other words, they are much more likely to end up somewhere in the middle of the pack. they will miss childress' versatility alot more than people realize.
