Default Tournament of the Americas 2007 Roster

Who do you go with? The last time we were in it, our team went 7-0 and dominated Argentina in the gold medal game. Who is your roster you go with?

I might make some minor adjustments, but I think it's important to stick with the same core of players to develop better teamwork and chemistry.

I simply don't think we can lose if we just put Duncan and KG on there and surround them with killer shooters: Ray Allen, Michael Redd, Ben Gordon. Have a PG that can shoot: bring back Hinrich I guess. Throw in some defenders/role players: bring back Battier, bring back Bowen (dont cut him this time), dare I say invite Artest?

A team with two dominant inside players, surrounded with shooters and defenders cannot lose.

the US needs a pure point whose defense rubs off on others.

also, the US will not be playing with a true center for quite some time.

i mean.. i think Shaq really is the last living center.

Amare is really a PF.

Howard is a center/forward combo.

Bosh is a PF

so who else do you have?

What do you mean? Last currently active American-born hall of fame caliber center? Because if that isn't what you mean, it's sort of a dumb statement. Yao Ming, Jamaal Magloire, Zydrunas Ilgouskas, etc, are certainly true centers. They aren't HOF-caliber (maybe Yao will be someday), and they can't play for the US team, but they are centers.

I think he meant American players, because he didn't say anything about Yao.

who does the US have that's a true center.

Shaq
Ben Wallace
Jamaal Magloire
Chris Kaman
Brad Miller

I think you gotta choose a style and play it. I think they should play shut down D and make sure you have jump shooters.

either Chris Paul, Williams or Billups at PG, all have something to contribute
SG has to be Kobe, good shooter and scorer plus great defender
Shane Battier, Richard Jefferson would be good at SF
PF Dwight Howard and Elton Brand, good contrasting styles that can fit how'd they wanna play
Chris Kaman and Ben Wallace would be assets at C. Ben Wallace could just be the scrappy type

They can't just go all stars like they did this year and past few years. It doesn't work.

I know what I put up probably wouldn't work, but I still say send the NBA Champs...

1. Give US citizenship to Yao Ming, Dirk, Manu and Gasol.
2. Get Ray Allen and Michael Redd in the team.

So, starting lineup will look like this:

PG: Captain Kirk
SG: Michael Redd
C: Yao Ming
PF: Dirk
SF: Melo

Bench:
C: Dwight Howard
SF: Ray Allen
PF: Gasol
SG: Manu
PG: Chris Paul

11th and 12th men: Lebron and Adam Morrison

whatever the roster, it really needs to be emphasized that we absolutely have to dominate the tourny. Only the top two finishers in the Tournament of the Americas (FIBA Americas Olympic qualifier) are going to qualify for the 2008 Bejing Games, and you will see relatively strong teams such as Brazil/Argentina/PR there.
