I believe people in China has mass mentality towards Kobe. This is due to media portrayal of him as the best player on the planet and the fact that most of them doesn't follow the NBA aside from Yao Ming.
If they knew the detail of Kobe's rape case then no doubt his popularity would have taken a big hit. Maybe not so much with the younger crowds than the older ones.
I was shocked to know Kobe, T-Mac, Iverson & LeBron are more popular than Yao in China..I can see why Kobe is more popular than him..Coz the media keeps overrating him & comparing him to MJ
Its not just the american sports channels. The rape case has been publicized everywhere, its linked to every other article written about him. I'd assume his fans in China read/know enough about him to have heard about the rape case at least once in their lifetime.
Not hating on Kobe, but it is a Fact that china's internet/media outlets are filtered so they don't get see or hear what everybody else across the world does.
And honestly, I don't think Kobe was guilty anyways.
For a black professional athlete, Kobe is pretty good looking (no homo, no racist ) and he's a superstar with money.
I don't see why he would have to rape someone.
He can go into a club and have any chick he wants.
And y'all know I'm a pro-Jordan, anti-Kobe kinda guy....
but still, it's time to let the rape stuff go. i dont think he did it.
Lol. So if you are good looking and got the cash the ladies always just give it up? ( in the ass too?) Something else to consider...there are some guys out there that don't want to just get the goods, they want to TAKE it.
The number of people that have entitlement issues gone out of control either from well-to-do families or as popular athletes is a million miles long. Many times in our American society we adore these "heroes" so much we turn a blind eye or just choose to deny.
None of us know for sure what happened in that room between Kobe and the woman. That is the only fact for the rest of us, whether we consider ourselves for or against Kobe.
I am sorry to say it but when I stop to think about it, I lean more towards the "I think Kobe probally did it" category. I feel that he is one of those people with some entitlement issues and I just don't see a young Kobe Bryant being all that sensitive or connected to other people's emotions.
@ the gullible people who think Kobe raped that b!tch. Like it's been said, he has no reason to rape a chick when he can get a piece of ass whenever he feels like. That girl in Colorado gave up the azz WILLINGLY. She was a certified smut anyway.

Wow. Just ...wow.
You seem like the kind of guy that would buy a ticket to watch the "event" and stand around yelling "MVP! MVP! MVP!

So I just asked two Chinese dudes who are in my summer classes who were in Shanghai during the whole Kobe rape case and none of them saw anything on the news about it. They are 24 and 20 year old males.
Who cares though? Everyone and their mama knows Kobe raped the girl.

so, the younger generation is less concerned with ones actions off the court?
do the chinese have a different standard for athletes in general?
and is it different for non chinese athletes in particular?

can you ask them:
so, the younger generation is less concerned with ones actions off the court? does it matter if someone raped someone if they are a superior athlete like kobe?
do the chinese have a different standard for athletes in general?
and is it different for non chinese athletes in particular-- specifically kobe?
